It’s a shop with everything!
Nov 2021 • Couples
Can’t believe how much they stock and it’s all fresh, well priced and a lot local. The opening and closing times alter for seasons so check if you need some last minute bits. It’s not one of those convenience stores that pushes its prices up either-knowing you’ve not got much local choice. I can see why it does so well and is so popular with holidaymakers

No excuse for being rude and nasty
Jul 2021 • Family
This is a lovely little store in the heart of the village and it is well stocked . They seem to have everything which is great if you don’t want to be driving out to larger supermarkets whilst on holiday in the village. We spent a great week in Robin Hoods Bay and loved every minute until the very last day . We were told by the owners of our cottage that we could bring our car down into the village for a short time in order to load up when we were leaving . This saved us carrying big bags etc up the steep hill.We had just started to do this when the lady owner of the Muir Lea store came shouting at us to move our car out of the way . I explained that we were just loading up but she wouldn’t listen and just kept shouting that we had to move it . There is a way to politely ask a person to do something and then there is her way . She was very rude , angry and aggressive . She even tackled our kids about it when we had gone to collect our luggage….. shouting and telling them off about the car . If tourists didn’t come to Robin hoods Bay, then her business would not be as fruitful as it is . There is no excuse for yelling and shouting at people who were just trying to load up the car and go home . We were doing it as fast as we could. One of the rudest women I have met in what was a lovely holiday .

Very friendly and happy to talk football with my lad. We only wanted a few sweets, but were amazed at how well stocked the little shop was. Regular shopping and touristy bits too at competitive prices.

Fantastic shop
Jan 2020
This shop is in the lower part of the village and has an amazing stock of all kinds of things. You can buy just two mushrooms if you so desire. The fact is, this shop is available and is worth visiting. They get a bakery delivery twice a week, on Wednesday and Saturdays and the scones are really good. There is a good range of foods, drinks and haberdashery.

Rude and hostile owner
Jun 2019 • Solo
After playing at the Laurel Inn for the folk festival, I popped in here to pick up a cake to have after dinner. I had a guitar with me and put it down briefly as I looked at the cake selection just inside the door.
Within thirty seconds I was pounced upon by the rudest woman I have ever encountered.

"That's in the way of my door and besides we're closing!" she barked as she barged past me and started bringing things inside. I calmly explained to her that I had just put it down for a second, as I was making a choice, and informed her that I did not believe her tone and attitude to be acceptable when speaking to her customers. She shouted back at me that she didn't care and kept repeating "If somebody trips, whose liable? Me!"

True the aisles were narrow but I would have happily have picked up my case up for anyone passing, and indeed did so for another customer before my encounter with this foul and delusional women.
She ranted on about the danger my guitar case posed to children in her store. There were no children, either in the store or anywhere nearby. But according to her, the children who lived in nearby cottages were still in danger.

I asked her to just listen to herself for a moment. She screamed in my face, "I don't want to listen to you, we're closed!" and slammed the door in my face.

Appalled at this, and seeing two customers still inside, I entered the shop again, hoping to resolve the issue more peacefully once her other customers had left. This was not to be.

As I entered I could not believe my ears. There she was behind the counter, with the gall to be loudly complaining about me to these two customers! She accused me of hitting one of them with my case, which was most certainly not true. The other customer, the very one I had moved my case for and whom I took to be a local, then proceded to threaten me with physical violence to the point I was ready to call the police!

Since Robin Hoods Bay's entire economy is based on tourism, it would seem that that the locals prefer to intimidate and abuse the visitors that keep them in business, rather than treating them with courtesy. Yes, I understand you were about to close and wanted to go home. Yes, my case was in your way. And yes, I had had two pints in the Laurel so you may have smelt alcohol on my breath and incorrectly assumed that I was drunk. I can assure you that I was not, but if this affected your attitude towards me then I apologise and will make some allowances. But none of these factors justify the rude, hostile, and just plain nasty, attitude you adopted from the moment you approached me, when a polite "excuse me please" and "just so you're aware, we're about to close, so make your choices, thanks" would have been infinitely more appropriate.

Having read the reply to the last negative review to this place, which also mentioned her hostile behaviour, I would also advise the lady in question that responses speak louder than reviews. A further abusive rant, justifying your disgusting attitude, will say more about you and your business than the sincere apology that your actions rightly demand.

This is not what occurred at all, if you seriously believe that this is what did occur then your a living in a different world. You were the aggressive and rude one and two other customers at the shop would confirm this. You refused to move your cases. The other review you refer to also refers to untruths in the review, about the times. You were the first to shout hence why the door was closed on you we do not have to be screamed at in the face by anyone. You were asked nicely to move your two cases as they were blocking the door You did knock another customer twice without apologizing You was actually told to "F**K Off" by one of the other customers because of your behavour The other customer mentioned to me that you had knocked them not me to them. So this is incorrect. You seem to be looking for an argument with anybody or anything You were showing no respect. We were not closed we never said we were closed we was just trying to get the things in from outside but you but your cases in the way and were asked nicely to move them but this is when you became aggressive and refused. I will not apologize as you were the one in the wrong and not me and I have two customers to back me up. So believe who you like but with two independent witnesses I think it is fairly clear who should be believed. The customer you were referring to was another visitor and not a local, so again you are incorrect here. The customer behind him was a local and actually came to the shop the next today to check that we was ok because of the way you acted, it was so poor. So if you want to accuse anybody of been rude and hostile find a mirror. You are the nastiest customer we have encountered this year, you had an inflated sense of self importance, you were rude, had no respect, and generally bad behaved. Again I will point out two other customers will back me up on this point. Therefore the statement of events you have give is just lies to make you look better. I have 2 independent witness to back this up.

Great local shop.

We made a point of only using local businesses on our long weekend in the bay.

This great little shop sells..... everything!!

Breakfasty things, fresh bread, newspapers, booze, chocolates, picnic foods and even beach toys made up our shopping list.

Very friendly service, the lady who served us on our first visit recommended the best places to eat and visit.

Beats Sainsbury's every time!
