Dull day with no view - failed double glazing in many carriages means absolutely no view. Where there are clear panels the glass is often too dirty. Sunny day with a view - a carriage with clear glass (ok not clean but at least bit opaque) - beautiful dales view, friendly volunteer staff, good on board bar. No real heritage... More

Although the train was a DMU rather than steam pulled it did not detract from the enjoyment of travelling on this preserved line. Our trip started and finished at the quaint Finghall Lane station, now a private dwelling, requiring the need to flag the train down as it is a request stop. Views ranged from the leafy banks of the... More

This train is run by volunteers and meanders slowly through some of the yorkshire dales from Northallerton to Redmire passing through Scruton,Leeming Bar, Bedale, Finghall Lane, Leyburn and Redmire. The track between Redmire and Aylsgarth is not yet open so if you want to go to either Bolton Castle and/or Aysgarth Falls you will need to catch a bus (and... More

Run by volunteers through Wensleydale - a real heritage railway. We've never been on a steam day but they have a Deltic which my son likes better. Running times and trains for the day are well advertised on the website. Good value. A real treat.

I am not sure if I set the bar too high for what I expected to be a charming train ride in the Yorkshire Dales. First impressions of Leeming Bar station weren't the least bit favourable - old run down buildings, scrap metal lying around, smelly temporary toilets, old railway cars that needed much maintenance. The one thing that you... More

Well it is always best if you can go on a steam train on this line but still a nice run out to the Yorkshire dales from Leaming bar station. Ok so the the trains are not in the best condition at the moment, with your support they will get there one day. Your support will also help extend the... More

When the train finally arrived about 20 minutes late it was a dirty 2 car dmu that weren't even the same set so walking though was impossible. The chap at the Leyburn station wasn't sure about ticket prices and the tea room showed no sign of opening until a minute before the late running train so we couldn't even get... More

We boarded at Leeming Bar and travelled to the end of the line at Redmire and back. A wonderful way to see the beautiful scenery of Wensleydale which you can't do when driving. The railway staff (I imagine most if not all were volunteers) were lovely, and the whole experience most enjoyable. We were delighted to see that we were... More

This heritage railway offers a journey of 22 miles from Northallerton to Redmire through the beautiful Wensleydale countryside. You can ride on a heritage diesel multiple unit or, on some days, as we did, you can ride behind a real steam locomotive and enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of being pulled by a steam loco up the dale. This... More
