Great course and friendly staff
Oct 2021 • Friends
My friends and I try and play Filey GC at least once a month as it's such a great challenging course. Holes 7, 8 and 9 can make or break your round!! The practice facilities are superb and are about to get much better with the near completion of a brand new 6 bay driving range, far better facilities than the 2 Scarborough courses, one of which I am a member of!! Seriously considering joining this gem of a course next year. The bar staff are very welcoming and the view from the balcony on the 19th is fantastic! Can't wait for my next visit!

The worst meal I have ever paid for
Sep 2021
This is a beautiful place, Great facilities,

The catering is a different matter, When the whole meal is a disaster!

The soup was tasteless. The prawn cocktail wasn't prawns but shrimps.
The vegetarian meal was sausages from a packet.
The beef was so tough you could have used it for shoe leather.
The waitress was so non catering...... You dont crush food on plates when collecting.
Paying was difficult because the damaged card reader didn't work.
Usually waiting staff have clean uniforms.
I could go on......

An interesting 9 hole course in Filey
Aug 2021
Played the 9 hole Academy course while on a family holiday in Filey for a week. I am a weekend golfer and found the course an excellent challenge for my level with some interesting holes across water- Hole 1 and Hole 9. I found Hole 5 particularly tricky- uphill, sloping right to left fairway and a sloping green. Hole 7 is the most picturesque looking into Flamborough bay. It takes just over 1 hour to complete 9 holes. This course is perfect if you want to have a quick round or work on some aspects of your short game. I found Simon the golf pro very helpful and everyone I met at the club was friendly. Will definitely play again when I visit Filey.

Not enjoyable at all
Jun 2021 • Friends
Played academy. Won't be going back. All 3 of us have agreed not to play here again. Greens are poor balls jumping up and down so many lumps that a straight puts pings left or right suddenly. Rough was atleast knee high and no chance of find a ball for a 2nd shot. Would e recommend. Used to live this course but now going elsewhere. ( sorry.)

The Academy Course first, then the main course
Sep 2020
Played this with a small Society, on a bright sunny day in September..who'd have thought we'd have been so lucky in the North!
Academy course, is a great start to a whole day at this course..quite testing..lost 3 balls..but a good prelude to the main course in the afternoon..I'd say a great course for a Society, wishing to spend a day at this venue .
Main course, as you would expect is testing, but not awfully so to a first time player..well kept and members all very friendly.
Our Secretary, known for his organisation prowess..and attention to detail, had booked our Society a lunch..regrettably, the older lady struggling to serve a fairly full clubhouse at the time, had not been alerted to our booking..so no lunch, unless you waited whilst the sole 'chef' struggled with the orders..not her fault and a stressful time for her. Bar lady was a bit short with our members..not so with regular clients..make of that what you might! Happy though to take over a £ sterling, for a small bag of crisps!

Covid restrictions, spoil to an extent the day..not the clubs fault, but would like to sample again in more normal times..if ever!

Course average-service in clubhouse terrible
Oct 2020
Played the course Friday 9th sept. we have had quite a bit of rain so it’s difficult to rate conditions of green/course fairly. Suffice to say they were just not as good as either of the two Scarborough courses we played on the same trip.

Bar service.

Whilst I appreciate times are difficult for staff & customers during these socially challenging times there are absolutely no excuses for just being downright rude.

After playing golf with a party of 12 on Friday it was our intention to have a couple of pints & maybe something to eat in the bar.
Whilst entering the upstairs room a quite obnoxious woman asked us if we had scanned in. She didn’t just ask us. She demanded to know. One of our party responded by saying “yes we were all in here before golf” As it happened I had not actually scanned so I said to the cantankerous old lady “actually I’ve not scanned, sorry what do I do?”
You could see the delight in her eyes as she whirled round to lambast the chap who had dared to speak earlier “HES NOT SCANNED” she shrieked “ DONT SPEAK FOR HIM IF YOU DONT KNOW” pointing her gnarled finger in his direction.

We were astounded. I dared to speak “wow that’s really rude, there’s no need to speak to us like that” I said. WELL IF YOU DONT LIKE IT YOU CAN LEAVE” was her curt response.

As I said. Tough times for all hospitality at the minute. I get things can be stressful & difficult. But manners cost nothing. We were not rude, abusive or anything untoward. We were just met by one of the rudest people I’ve ever had the displeasure to meet.

BTW the chap who wrote the previous poor review is NOT a member of our party. So two poor reviews at the same time by different people would suggest management should really sort this out if they want people to come back.

Poor rude bar service costs golf club
Oct 2020
The bar service and attitude by both female ladies was bordering on rude. They effectively cost their club £200, as our group would have put that behind the bar whilst everyone gathered.

Regardless of the golf course location or condition we won't return.
Times are very hard. Polite warming encompassing service is very easy and gives lots in return.

The ladies behind the bar should try it.

Good course, poor bar service
Sep 2020
The course was in great condition. The bar staff and food service are different teams and refuse to collaborate. The bar side were rude to our party, whilst the food staff were ok.

Great course...Great condition.
Sep 2020 • Friends
I played the course this morning with 3 friends. We all agree that the course condition is emaculate. Very impressed with the fairways, greens and even the tee boxes.
Congratulations to the greenskeeper and the staff.
I would thoroughly recommend playing this course.

Excellent Golf Course
Jun 2019
Filey Golf Club is a very friendly club, we usually come down to Filey every year in June. I usually play golf with the members on Monday, Wednesday, Friday morning's. I have made many new friends, they are very welcoming. This year I had to arrange a buggy due to health problems. They signed me in for a buggy, very nice gesture. The course is in very good condition fast greens credit to the green staff. The clubhouse is a lovely place to have coffee or meals after your round, excellent views of the course and Filey from the balcony. First Class.
