As a friend and I neared the end of our 4-day Herriot Way walk we walked past the church on the way to Aysgarth Falls (the upper falls) and were invited to enter the church to see the flower displays and partake of some refreshments. The church was holding a 2-day flower festival with refreshments provided. The church looks lovely and I'd revisit to see the church properly another time when I am not so tired!. However, what I saw from looking at the flower displays gave me the impression that this was a picturesque country church with some nice stained glass windows.
The flower displays were beautiful and the volunteers providing the refreshments (home made cakes & biscuits and sandwiches plus hot & cold drinks) were all friendly and made you feel welcome.
If you are in Aysgarth then this is a lovely place to visit and is very close to the upper Aysgarth Falls.

We were told about this church when we visited the visitors centre near Aysgarth falls & it was definitely worth the effort. The church has some unusual features - Fresco on the back wall & stunning stain glass windows - which were simply outstanding. The other thing that was nice, was that the church was open to all to visit & spend time to admire the simply delightful features of the this very unusual church. The only other thing to say is that we would recommend this church to anyone who is in the area as must see.

A footpath from close to the waterfall takes you off road and up to St Andrews Church. The churchyard is kept neat and tidy thanks to the grazing sheep

Travelling on the Leyburn to Aysgarth road (A684), turn at the eastern end of the Aysgarth Falls Hotel (Church Bank) down towards Aysgarth Falls. Within a few tens of yards, there is a Pay and Display Public Footpath (£1 per hour). Continue down the road and St. Andrew’s Churchyard is reached very quickly. Walk down the tree lined path to the South Door, but just before you enter, look to the right of the Porch where you will find an unusual wooden memorial to 2 Border Collies – Katy & Toby – a reminder that you are deep in Sheep rearing country!
On entering, I suggest you purchase the Visitors’ Guide (£2) which is clearly written and well illustrated. It also has a floor plan with 23 annotations. There are several interesting stained glass windows as well as an imposing Alter and Reredos carved in Caen Stone. But above everything else are “The Jervaulx Treasures” - the “Vicar’s Stall” and the magnificent long and highly decorative “Jervaulx Screen”, rescued from nearby Jervaulx Abbey at the time of King Henry VIII’s Dissolution of the Monasteries and carried on the shoulders by 20 men to Aysgarth!
On leaving the Churchyard, turn right down a steepish hill the 3 sets of Falls.

A relative us burried there we believe. JOHN BLADES. are records kept on where his grave might be in the cemetery. He died in the 1952. Thanks a lot.

I was impressed by how tidy the graveyards are kept here by grazing sheep to keep the grass down. The graveyards around the church are probably smaller than a football pitch so even if you can’t find who keeps records a couple of hours looking around would probably find your relative. Lovely area for a day out as well

How many bells in the tower and what chimes are used by the clock (e.g. Westminster)?
