When ever I get the chance to visit Whitstable I always check the tide times for a walk along the Street. There is something special about walking along a natural phenomena like this, maybe it’s the, so far unspoilt town, the harbour or childhood memories.

The Street makes for an interesting diversion from a regular beach trip and gives you a new perspective on Whitstable and Tankerton. However be wary of the tides, especially if you have small children with you. It can disappear quite quickly.

In all weathers, we have enjoyed walking beside the sea here, peaceful, charming beach huts, interesting birds, children's playground, skatepark so interesting for all ages. Don't get caught out when the sea comes in on The Street sandbank!

There aren't many places where it feels as though you're walking on the sea, but this is one. Wait for the tide to go out and walk as far as you can along the exposed spit of land for a really different experience and lovely...More

Wait till low tide & take a walk between the sea. Like parting the waves really good. The shingle is dry so you doubly need Wellington. enjoy

The Street is a pebble bank caused by meeting tidal currents that stretches out from Tankerton beach Northwards into the sea for almost a mile at low tide. Its surreal being out there, with water lapping at both sides, with a breeze in your face,...More

Great fun going out onto this shingle spit before it disappears under the (very slowly) returning tide. Worth waiting for fully low tide to get out the full distance.

At low tide she can walk right out to sea along the street and see up as far as Margate but look the other way for the best sunsets in England. If you get a super low tide it can take about 30 minutes to...More

My daughter was married at the beginning of July 2017 at the Artists Beach House, just above The Street. As the tide was low just after the ceremony the photographer took the opportunity to use the sand bar for some unusual photographs, with bride groom...More

Of course it is only visible & accessible when the tide is out! A little marvel of nature, a huge long sand bar that some say has magical powers. A fun walk & lovely to look back at the coastline but don;t get stuck out...More

Excellent question. But of course geography is not square. So although Whitstable is on the Eastern Coast, the town faces north and west as it is on a 'bump' sticking up and out. The sun, variably, sets over the Island of... More
