An oasis of calm up on the cliffs but sunken, as the name suggests, so out of the wind and a charming garden with plenty of seating and well kept borders. There was still some colour in some of the plants and a few gardeners doing some maintenance and upkeep which is always good to see. These places don't look good without people looking after them so well done to them.
A ' Victorian Style Pleasure Garden ' from the 1930's. I'm sure it would look even better in spring or summer when all the plants are in full bloom, as it was a mid November visit was still a good experience so well worth a visit.

If you like a bit of grass and a few shrubs, you might enjoy the sunken garden. While away two minutes walking all the way around, or sit down for a while. Stand up again and sit somewhere else, the possibilities are endless!

We went for a walk and found this place the kids and the dog loved it lots places to run and hide. We had a good game of hide and seek. The gardens were ok but the green at the top had loads of dog poo reported it to the council as we had to leave it was so bad real shame people can't pick up after there dogs. Once cleaned it will be lovely.

Hedden away on the cliff top between Westbrook and Westgate, we have a sunken garden.
Grass and flowers with a walk way on a higher terrace. There are benches for a quiet rest, and it is a very peaceful place to sit and watch the world go by.

When you first go there it seems unimpressive, but I walk my dogs there a lot and have seen lots of new plants, New remembrance benches and I love it. Very serene and, of course, is so near to the beautiful Westbrook Beach.

It's a lovely place to walk around. It is great for dog walks, strolls, and family picnics. The place is scenic and relaxing. It's great all year round.

The sunken gardens are exactly what it says on the tin. I suspect they are the result of a bomb crater from the second world war, but I could be wrong. In any case these small and tranquil gardens are a welcome oasis on the walk between Westbrook and Westgate. Take a picnic, or just stop for a rest along the way.

Is what it says...sunken gardens. Were probably glorious in Victorian times. Calm peaceful place to chill and relax.

Disappointing to find (after a good walk) that the gardens were so neglected to the extent that it would be nearly impossible to get them back to an enjoyable state. My garden puts this place to shame,

I like taking my daughters here when the weather is nice so we paid a visit during the Easter holidays.
The gardeners had set out an Easter egg hunt for the children and they were doing some brilliant work to the flower beds.
Unfortunately, some vandals have wrecked small parts of the stonework, but apart from this everything still looks great.
Lovely for picnics or to get some sun on windy days.
