Sunday Date Lunch
Apr 2021
Came in for a little Sunday treat and we were served by Sophie and Sophia - they were both very friendly and helpful throughout the meal and couldn’t fault their service. The food was wonderful, tasty and warm and arrived quickly! Thank you girls for everything!

What a lovely bar and restaurant this is. Laura offers a high class service as do her staff. Fantastic food as well. The gentlemen called Ioan (Jo-an) really looked after us and ensured we had all we wanted. Really couldn’t fault this outstanding establishment and we are already booked back in for more food and drinks. Plus we are going to go back to experience the Christmas period as this place will be very seasonal and lovely.

Well done Team Laura.

What a let down, we have started looking for pubs/restaurants to take my mum to for her 80th birthday and this was one on our list for local trials. Having booked this in advance for three people and got an acknowledgement I subsequently called and changed the booking to four people and again got swift confirmation, on arrival we were shown to our table near the back and close to the kitchen and it was only set for three.

Having been seated we were immediately ask if we would like to order any drinks ( which we did) and were given menus, our drinks were delivered as ordered however my wife’s 250ml glass of pinot (£7.95) was warm and we had to ask for ice to chill it and perhaps this should have raised alarm bells.

Anyway, we placed our orders for starters and main courses and a couple of minutes later I was told the starter I had selected was not available and selected my second choice. Even now we had not been given a fourth place setting and it was not until the starters came out that I had to remind the staff and it was brought over.

Starters were ok (but small for what was being charged)so it was then on to main courses, two of us had selected the mixed roast. One roast sirloin beef and one gammon, egg and chips. All of the roasts were very average in terms of the temperature that they were served at and my wife left most of the supposed double cooked chips and having not been offered condiments we had to request basic items such as horseradish. We had planned prior to also have dessert but we felt it was not worth being dissatisfied even further.

Besides the poor food, what annoyed me even further was the fact that staff sat at a table opposite to one side of us squeezing ketchup out of bottles into a funnel to fill bottles. Scrapping jars of horseradish, mustard and so on into other jars to top them up.

This was a huge disappointment as my wife had visited with friends more than twice last year and food and staff could not have been any better, how things change and this is now of our list for my mums birthday.

Romantic meal for two

An excellent meal in the Little Brown Jug, I highly recommend the Hash Brown (see picture). My only criticism is that we had to ask the staff a few times for the dessert menu and also the bill, but otherwise the service was good.

Having decided to take my wife out for the day but with no particular itinerary in mind we passed a sign proclaiming Best Fish & Chips winners as it was lunch time decided to give the Little Brown Jug a go What a fantastic place it was extremely busy but the manager Laura said if we did not mind waiting she would seat us ASAP As we were in no hurry we were happy to have a drink outside in the sun and the wait was worth it.I can see why they won the accolade Best Fish & Chips our thanks to Laura and her staff

Lovely pub, great food
Apr 2019 • Couples
We happened by this pub on our way to Hever and what a find it was .

Lovely salad lunch with walnuts, Stilton pears and hot goats cheese, bursting with textures and flavours . I’m salivating thinking about it as I type!

We looked at the evening menu and considered returning for dinner (lobster!) but didn’t only because we plumped for somewhere in walking distance of our accommodation so we could have a drink .

I’ll definitely look this place out when I’m in the area again .

Work Christmas party without the cheer
Dec 2018 • Business
Our company regularly chooses this venue for Christmas celebrations. On this occasion the attitude of the waiting staff was abrupt and borderline rude, with two ladies in particular seemingly ‘in a mood’ on this particular day, barging past diners to collect plates and barking at us to move out of the gangway. The food was also a bit under par e.g. pate and soup dishes served without bread. Bar staff were friendly and attentive though so top marks to them.

Midday meal

A bit overpriced for both meal and drinks. Unfortunately the table we sat at was very sticky which was off putting.
