- Denise B5 contributionsExpert tour of a brilliant operationReally enjoyed our vineyard tour and wine tasting at Chapel Down with tour guide Martin. His expert commentary and good hearted responses to our questions made our visit to such a lovely site most enjoyable. We were gently and quietly organised by the team without being made to feel we were on a conveyor belt. The wine was rather nice too! Would recommend.Hello, thank you for your great review. - Fearless642765137 contributionsgreat present from the grandchildrenLike many on our tour, this is obviously a popular gift experience, Martin a great informative guy. A lot to learn about assessing wines , have been to wine tastings before but the structure of this was excellent. The wines are good. Obviously the exit through the shop is a merchandising experience!!, quite pricey its good to see a UK endeavor actually succeeding. With the accommodation close by it was a very enjoyable experience.Hello, thank you for your great review. We are very pleased to read that you had a great experience with us! - 49sunshineCardiff, United Kingdom253 contributionsA splendid visitA very informative tour, full of interest and topped off by being able to taste these splendid British wines. It would have been made more enjoyable if concessions had been made for the age of our group, many over 70 who found standing for long periods difficult. Maybe a seated talk at the start followed by the tour or even a few seats made available around the venue would have been appreciatedHello, thank you for your great review. - Houlihan2Melbourne, Australia778 contributionsFabulous day out!We took a train from Harrow on the Hill to Charing Cross Station, where we caught a train to Headcorn in the beautiful Kent countryside. From there, we took an Uber to Chapel Down winery, which is England’s leading wine producer, specialising in sparkling wines. We went on an extremely informative guided tour of the vineyard and the winery and were then treated to a tutored tasting and a fabulous set menu lunch. We bought two bottles of the 2018 Grand Reserve sparkling wines as gifts. A great experience and highly recommended.Hello, thank you for your great 5/5 review. - towella69Nerja, Spain178 contributionsDry wines - on the pricey sideInteresting tour around the vineyard. Some interesting facts about how a still wine becomes sparkling. Very informative staff. Tasting = 5 wines. All very nice but a little too dry for my taste. Cheapest wine starts at £16 the best on offer equal to a champagne was £42. - marg kLiverpool, United Kingdom470 contributionsLargest sparkling wine producer in EnglandVisited as part of a wine tour with a party of friends. Good tour of the vineyard although it seemed a little rushed compared to other vineyards we visited. Guide gave lots of information about the processes for wine making although we were unable to view the processes as harvest was underway. We were taken to part of the vineyard which had already been picked so this wasn't particularly useful. the tutored wine tasting was excellent and we had the opportunity to taste some top quality sparkling wines produced by the company. Sadly the guide just referred to the notes from the winemaker rather than his own knowledge which we had experienced at another vineyard. Wines were very expensive but would be ideal for a special occasion.Hello, thank you for your review. We are very pleased to read that you had an enjoyable experience with us! - Harvey MPeterborough, United Kingdom247 contributionsVery good value for moneyBest weekend for some time. Booked for the deluxe tour. Vouchers purchased for birthday. Booked it several months in advance. Good time to go is mid/late September. Stayed overnight 6 miles away. Good comms, got there for 1115 to meet at 1130. Tea b4 we set off. Andrew was our guide. He was just brilliant. Very funny and knowledgable. After one hour tour, off to the sample room. More fun and knowledge gathering. Then upstairs for a 3 course meal and more wine. Quality of the food and service was 5 star hotel standard. Into to the shop to spend more money. tea to end siting outside as weather was nice, taxi took us home at 1715. Have recommended to loads and will go back with others next year. Might even invest.Hello, thank you for your great 5/5 review of our deluxe experience. - mrthom1316London, United Kingdom241 contributionsVery Good Wine TourWe did the Deluxe Winery experience. Freddie took us on the tour, explained all about Chapel Down and the local history of winemaking. Freddie talked all about the production process as we saw the vines in the fields, we looked at the vast storage tanks and then went into a barn area. The tasting after this was good. Freddie has a great personality for explaining the tasting process and the specifics about each wine. Following the tasting we had a 3-course set menu lunch with accompanying Chapel Down wines. The food in the restaurant was excellent.Hello, thank you for your great 5/5 review. We are very pleased to read that you had a great experience with us! We hope to welcome you again soon. A brilliant experience! Staff were so friendly and the meal was absolutely delicious with wonderful pairing wines. Our tour guide (Charlie) was brilliant - informative, friendly, engaging and funny giving exactly the right amount of information at each point in the tour which is just the right length. Charlie was also excellent during the wine tasting session which was very informative but also relaxed and less formal than other wine tastings I’ve been to. Well worth a visit!

We had the Winter Wine Experience and it was fantastic. The wines were beautiful and the guy who led the tasting was great. The measures are very generous so don’t drive! Getting there is a bit tricky so it’s wise to plan ahead. We got the train to Headcorn and used the taxi rank at the station to get to the winery, which was £31 each way.
I would highly recommend this for couples, or to give to someone as a gift.

We went for a birthday treat.
The weather was beautiful and sunny which enhanced things.
Our guide Tom was incredibly knowledgeable, and delivered just the right amount of info - we learned lots without being overwhelmed or it feeling inaccessible. He also gave brilliant detailed answers to questions the group asked.
We tasted a generous amount of wines and Tom gave unpretentious and useful insight as we went along.
The wines themselves were delicious and we will certainly look differently at English wines in the future.
A perfect two hour afternoon in idyllic settings.

This was sorted out for me by a close friend and what a great gift.
Our tour guide Tom was outstanding , full of knowledge about vines, grapes, wine and made the whole experience very special .
Well planned and executed well describing the wines , what you could pair them with food wise too.
We caught the train to Headcorn not able to get a taxi caught the bus , stop right outside the station into Tenterden , had lunch then managed to get a taxi to Chapel down itself , rebooked the taxi to pick us up before he left .

Fabulous day at Chapel Down. From the first greeting with a glass of fizz to the very tasty lunch and on through the wine tour and tastings… absolutely excellent and can’t recommend highly enough. Our guide Henry was very knowledgeable and highly entertaining and always ready with a jovial remark. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and are now recuperating at local hotel ready for some sleep!

Recently visited the vineyard on a Virgin Experience.
We were given a great tour by Russell, who was very informative and witty.
We visited the vines and were then taken through the whole wine making process from grape to bottle.
That was followed by the highlight of the tour, a wine tasting session, where we sampled six of the vineyards excellent wines, expertly led by Russell.
Overall this was an excellent experience, which I would highly recommend.

We have been on numerous vineyard tours throughout the world, but we still learnt a lot on this one. We went because we were particularly interested to learn how the processes needed to be adapted to suit our climate.
Our guide was absolutely superb, not only on the tour, but also during the following wine tasting. I had drawn the short straw and was driving. It felt terrible to just have a sip of these wines and then throw the rest away. Pretty unique for me!
Having Ben to Bordeaux, Australia etc etc, it is easy now to understand why these wines are expensive, as the vineyards are so much smaller than elsewhere.
Well worth doing - whether or not you like wine

On a moody March day a group of friends went to learn a little more about English wine making, we were not disappointed. Emma supported by trainee Freddie, introduced us to the world of the Bacchus grape vines (Bacchus we learnt was the Goddess of Wine), and Pinot noir and beauties other that following the wine tasting have slipped my mind!
Emma was knowledgeable, funny and able to hold and keep an audience. She answered our numerous questions with great humour and patience. The tour is excellent value for money and best of all you get to try the produce- Bacchus still white was a top favourite at our table, along with the Three Graces sparkling and a Kits Coty glorious blend.
Thank you Chapel Down great tour and beautifully made vino 👍

Wine connoisseur or not, come here if you would like to know how wine is made and be entertained at the same time. Our engaging & informative tour guide, Henry, was superb and held the attention of the group with many an amusing quip as he walked us though the production stages from vine to bottle. We visited on a Monday which is the one day the coffee shop is closed. The lady on the desk told us (in a rather perfuntory fashion) 'it's a different business'. Really, this needs to be disclosed at the time of booking as many, like us, will have travelled a distance and, ahead of a 2 hour+ tour, some refreshment would have been welcome. Happily we were early and hopped into Tenterden for a coffee. That apart, an excellent day and highly recommended.

Hi and thanks for the feedback.
Henry is an excellent guide and epitomizes the tour offering we go for. Informative and entertaining to all.
The restaurant on site are normally open seven days a week but due to staffing issues from Covid haven't reopened, yet, on Mondays and Tuesdays . It has caused a lot of issues us and customers as that is our only source of hot drinks and food for customers. I totally understand your position and it is something we are working on, if the situation isn't resolved soon.

Purchased Cheese and Wine Tasting/Tour vouchers for a gift. But unfortunately the vouchers were unable to be given to the intended recipients. I knew I wouldn’t be able to get the cash back so emailed Chapel Down to see if I could spend the monetary value of the vouchers on line. Expecting to be told no but to my surprise I was allowed to do this.
I dealt with a lady called Rachel. I was very impressed with her rapid responses to emails and within two days of ordering wine with Rachel it arrived.
The service I received was excellent and based on this experience look forward to purchasing more wine and enjoying a tour of the vine yards.
Thank you
Please note we didn’t actually visit Chapel Down but had to add this otherwise I couldn’t submit my review. Just wanted to say thanks for good service.

Do any buses from any of the nearby train stations (Headcorn) go to chapel down on a Sunday.
Written September 23, 2019
I dont think so - best to get a train to Tenterden and then a cab as not very far - just a few miles down the lanes. Im sure Chapel Down could call a cab back for you or just take the card of the one you take there. Simples.

Is there a campsite nearby or is there a possibility of camping onsite to make the most of the wines & Restaurant in this lovely rural location without the need for a designated driver or taxi?

Hi
You can't camp on site I am afraid. Bodiam boating station is a lovely local site.

Hi there. Do you know if Uber is arriving to Chapel Down from the Tenterden (and vice versa)? We do plan to come on Sunday and unfortunately there is no bus service on Sunday, regular taxi fares are a bit too expensive for that short ride. Many thanks!

Pls can you tell me if the tour and Swan restaurant can be booked in advance together or must they be booked separately?
Thanks.
Written March 20, 2017
If you want more flexibility I would recommend booking separately. We do experiences which include lunch which is one booking but they are on selected dates.
If you would like to chat more or book a tour call 01580766111 and any member of staff will be able to help
Thanks
