Not a Princely welcome!
Oct 2020 • Friends
Four of us are having a golfing holiday on Kent and unfortunately we were all disappointed by the state of the fairways and lack of grass. We played the Himalayas and the Shore and the greens were acceptable but not amazing.
For a £90 green fee there was little welcome, no starter and the barman took our order for 4 pints after the game and promptly started collecting glasses and apparently forgot our order. After 10 minutes we walked out.

Excellent for a golf break or just a round!
Jul 2020
An absolutely brilliant place for a UK golf break, 3 brilliant 9 hole courses on site and some of the friendliest and most helpful staff I've ever met.  I've been quite a few times and I'm always impressed by the customer first ethos and the condition of the courses, regardless of the weather.

Stayed at this amazing place for 1 night with my sister and what a relaxing stay it was! Great service, great food, attention to detail, great location and a great atmosphere. The staff were all amazing. A special mention goes to Tom behind the bar who was courteous, polite and a credit to Princes. Looking forward to our next stay in May. Thank you :-)

Fantastic course and a true test
Feb 2020 • Friends
I came here with two friends and we played all 3 sets of 9. The Dunes loop was our favourite and is a beautiful links course. Given we played in Winter the fairways and greens were immaculate. You have to think your way around the course and positioning is key- we played in very strong winds which made shot making quite difficult but over Dunes and Shore I managed to shoot +11 so I was very pleased. I highly recommend this course if you fancy a links test. We stayed in the lodge, the only slight gripe is that the clubhouse shut at 5pm and the bar in the lodge was rammed with golfers who took over but we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless.

excellent links course

The 27 holes of princes are great. Both the modernized himalayas course as the 18 holes dunes/shores course are great fun. difficult in windy conditions, but nothing beats a great links course.

Golf Package
Sep 2019 • Friends
Visited to play a two course package including Prince’s and RSG. We stayed in twin room number 25 and had dinner and breakfast in the Brasserie.

From start to finish this was a fantastic experience.

The course and facilities are great - we played Shore and Dunes in fairly breezy conditions and it was a great test of strategy to avoid the revetted pot bunkers and keep the ball on the hard and fast fairways. Both 9s were in great condition, greens a bit quicker on Shore.

The accommodation in the Lodge is perfect for golfers our room was comfortable, would have benefitted from AC on the night we stayed but I’m pretty sure that wouldn’t apply for much of the year.

The food was excellent. Great choice, well prepared, very tasty and satisfying.

Top marks however go to the team who run everything. The people in the pro shop, clubhouse and Lodge were all really friendly, welcoming and professional making for a relaxing and enjoyable break.

Well worth a visit.

A privilege to play on this course. In great condition especially the greens. Wind makes this tough course even more difficult. Very good modern clubhouse. Highly recommended

Great Links Golf
Jul 2019 • Friends
14-15 Jul 19 - This was the second visit to Princes for my small golf group the last being nearly three years ago. Last time we visited was in October so the course was in a different condition and the Himalayas Course layout had changed significantly. I will cover the trip in different sections to assist the reader and any future visitor to the venue:

The Golf Course -
If you have never visited Princes before it consists of three 9 hole courses being Dunes, Shore and Himalayas. The courses are fairly similar in that they are of the links style and require the player to stay in the fairway or face a high score from the brutal rough. At this time of year, the course was very brown with little grass on the fairways. It is expected this time of year but on some of the holes you look enviously over the fence at Royal St Georges and it lush all over course. It does have The Open next year so no surprise really. Back to Princes and the bunkers are challenging but with lovely sand so getting out of them is down to your skill or luck and does not allow you to blame a lack of sand as in most courses of lower quality. The greens are all in fantastic condition and very true to their read. Be aware that the practice green is a lot quicker than the actual course greens and we found their slowness a little frustrating especially as The Open qualifies were only played here a couple of weeks ago. Lastly, the Himilayas has changed significantly with holes being changed or removed, the par 3 second, and this may through out your phone app's as we all found. Luckily one of the lads had a sight measuring device so all was good. Overall the courses are fun and a challenge. Take care when trying to negotiate around Shore and Dunes as many people end up either playing the wrong holes or walking for a long time looking for their next tee-off location. Last time we visited we never played the 18th at Shore in three rounds and took the wrong route playing Dunes' 18th hole 5 times.

The Lodge - The lodge has a good standard of accommodation with four us being in one apartment type room with two twin rooms and an ensuite each along with a shared tv living room. The location is ideal being on the course and the food and bar are all of a sufficient standard.

Other issues -

Lack of Staff - As we were playing we crossed the car park of the clubhouse where we and everyone else using the course were parked. In the car park were two youths on bicycles. They were clearly up to no good and when approached by us cycled off. We reported this to the club shop and the lad there said he would keep an eye on them. Clearly, there was nothing he could do and no one else to call upon. There did not appear to be any security camera's on the car park and I would suggest ensuring you lock your vehicles and never leave any clubs or valuables on view.

The clubhouse closes at 7 pm. On this Sunday we had finished our round at around 6 pm and went in to watch the end of the cricket world cup. There were around 30 people in the room and as everyone now knows the cricket was a cracker and came down to the super over. The super over was to take place near to 7 pm. At 7 pm the woman working in the clubhouse came over and turned the tv off saying she had to go to the lodge and the clubhouse was now closed. Whilst I would understand if she was going home the fact is that this is a sports facility and the match was the most important cricket match in England's history going into an unprecedented super over. Surely a little common sense by the staff member or her manager could have said leave the TV on for another 1/2 hour?

As the first day was Sunday we stopped after our first round in the spike bar to have some food. We were informed that Sunday was a special day and any food including chips had to be pre-booked. We were not told this when booking the trip and thus had to settle for sausage rolls only. Why weren't we told when we had multiple rounds booked on this day??

Course Marshalls - There are not any. We swapped our last round to balance out the courses we played and were told yes carry on there is no one due to play that one; Dunes. When we got to the first tee we found another group who had just walked off the 18th and decided to go around again. You can tell these were in the wrong as they wouldn't look at any of us as they tee'd off lol. The fact is if you want to book just nine holes you could probably play all day and no one would ever challenge you. There was plenty of green staff but no one checking who was playing. Maybe this will help keep everyone's costs down knowing this information but it was quite frustrating from a paid-up group.

The cost - It is expensive. For one night with a day buggy, £40, and 54 holes of golf we each paid £310. On top of that was breakfast when we arrived on day 1 and lunch on both days plus any drinks you purchased. For such a short trip this was not cheap and should seriously be considered by any future visitors.

Like I said this was our second visit, although the first being in October was obviously a lot cheaper.

Overall nice course and set-up at Princes but expensive and better value options out there. Hope this helps....

27 holes of challenging links golf
Mar 2019 • Friends
As a member of Royal St George’s which is adjacent to Princes I get to play these wonderful golf courses regularly and I can’t recommend Princes enough.

Unlike RSG Princes is made up of three 9 hole courses all offering different challenges and in some ways I find Princes harder than my own course with small upturned saucer greens so accuracy is key to a good score. The club has also made substantial changes to what was their third 9 hole course and now this nine is arguably its signature course. I’ve always found the club accommodating and although there is nothing special about the clubhouse it does have a lovely balcony with views of the English Channel.
