Coastal walk …
Nov 2021 • Couples
A lovely walk from Deal to Sandwich via the coast path. Seaward the English Channel looms large, inland the golf course looks hilly and challenging, in front of the big skies of the lowland arable landscape.

Lovely area for walking
Jul 2021
Staying nearby we decided to do a walk from Sandwich to the coast and back along part of the Saxon Shoreway. The beach is quite extensive and on the day we walked along the tide was well out, and so we were able to walk along a sandy beach with only the area close to the carpark being busy. There were lots of birds around and seals although we saw none during our walk.

Make an informed choice….

For me, beautiful…. Misinformation galore

The beach will not be for everyone. But reviews give a plethora of misinformation and misinterpretation. There is a charge for motorists to use the road. But no, it is not to keep out the riffraff. Neither is it ‘typical of a pompous golf club”, with whom the charge is absolutely unrelated. Attributing it to “rich greedy buggers” is also the to miss the point. The residents are financially responsible for the road and the estate. The statement that “once a road is down it’s down” and therefore requires no cost is not correct. It also not true that residents “will not clean the beach”. Residents and non residents collaborate to sweep the rubbish and plastic
which washes in, as well as on conservation projects, all of which cost money,

It is not true that there is no sand.

It will cost you to drive the private road which goes to the beach. If you go when the tide is on, it will be shingle. If you go when the tide is out, there will be hundreds of metres of flat sands, giving access to shallow sea for paddling and swimming and rich wild and bird life. For me, it is stunning. For you, as a previous reviewer says, there may “much better beaches”

Check the tide times and photos, and decide if you want to pay to use people’s private road. Make an informed choice to either, as I do, enjoy it, or move on and enjoy another beach. But avoid misinformed assumptions made on ignorant stereotypes of class and golf clubs.

Not happy with 7 quid for beach
Jul 2021 • Couples
Not worth 7 quid toll... Ridiculous suprised it's allowed seems like an estate full of rich people playing greedy buggers and charging you to get to the beach. Avoid!

We went to have a look at Sandwhich Bay this evening, as we had been looking around the Kent Coast. We arrived at 7.30pm and were asked to pay £7!!!! even at that time of night....is that fair?? ?

Magical Sandwich Bay
Aug 2020
I have visited Sandwich Bay on a few occasions and at low tide it is a magical place as one can walk happily on the sand flats.

People have told me that there is a toll for cars (about seven quid) but as I walk from Deal this does not bother me.

This year we have the Open which will mean for a week it will be hell with all the golf groupies hanging out and this might spoil the peace and quiet of the area.

In 2015 I walked along the footpath on a very hot day and witnessed a Fata Morgana (Superior Mirage) as I looked towards France. These are reasonably rare but given the correct conditions they can be seen especially when looking out to sea.

Also Turner said that the light in the area is the equal of Venice- how true that is as the light here (I live in Deal) is absolutely stunning no matter what month it is.

Although Sandwich Bay is great - you are not far from the lovely town of Deal which has some very interesting indie shops - Walmer and Kingsdown are nearby and I almost forgot that the town of Sandwich is really beautiful and so very quiet (apart from when the golf comes to town).

Also you are not far from Margate which has a great art gallery and Whitstable which is just rather nice.

There are other places such as Broadstairs, Birchington (where Dante Gabriel Rossetti sleeps) and Ramsgate which has the best Wetherspoons in the whole wide world.

Think of it a remote day at Wild Sandwich Bay and a meal at Spoons in the evening (bliss)

Do come to this part of Kent once Uncle Boris gives the go ahead SMO

Nice Stoney Beach
Jun 2020
I came to Sandwich Bay Beach on a weekday in June. The beach is very long and offers good sea views, however it is stony which means it's good for walking but may not be great for sunbathing.

Do not spend the money on the toll
Aug 2020
We spent £7 per car to access a beach that is accessible elsewhere. Absolute waste of money. Plenty of other far nicer beaches
