TheTurner Contemporary is a must see for visitors to Margate, even if they have little or no interest in art and didn't know Turner lived and worked there. For one thing, the building is beautiful with its simple, cuboid design and its location. Inside there's lots of space and the usual, respectful silence accorded to art galleries. Despite its name,... More

When the gallery was first muted I was a total disbeliever of the suitability of the project. I'm so glad I have been proven wrong. There are some of the exibhition that I don't understand and even dislike, but there are many more that are really enjoyable to visit. The differences in the content of the exhibition should cater for... More

A lovely fabric/textile exhibition at an ugly art gallery. A fun display of accessible modern art. But toilets were very prison like and almost scary to use! Wheelchair access was Starlin-like - perhaps some wall murals outside might lighten the concrete here?! Turner paintings were poorly lit and very limited. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and shop had a... More

From the outside, I'm not sure that the gallery presents a better view than that of the nineteenth century. Of course, I can only base that opinion on the boarding house where Turner stayed as portrayed in the film 'Mr Turner'. The gallery was built on the same spot. Inside, it is an ideal space for exhibiting, We were greeted... More

We had been encouraged to visit the Turner Contemporary whilst staying in Broadstairs by fellow hotel residents. The current exhibition is textile based. I hate to hurt the feelings of any artist, but really we wanted to laugh out loud at the serious attempts by visitors to engage with this "art." The story of the Emperor's Clothes came to mind!!!... We popped in late afternoon for a quick visit. The good thing about the Turner contemporary is that there is a constant change of exhibits. Not a large gallery so don't expect a long visit but worth a look. Interesting gift shop as well.

If whoever paid for this crock of crap place had spent the money on clearing up Margate it would have been a better use of the cash. The material exhibition was just rubbish people walking around pretending they were impressed was the best bit. All in all a ridiculous waste of spave, as someone said the seaview was all it... First visit to the Turner and I think I may have arrived a little late as the fabric based exhibition currently on wasn't to my taste. The Turner paintings exhibit which was prior to this would have been more enjoyable I believe. That said the museum is lovely and brings to mind a smaller version of Tate St Ives. Couple... More

Went here expecting to see some Turner paintings but they only had some of his etchings in a dimly lit corridor. Turner Contempory is an exhibition space rather than an art gallery. There was an exhibition on called "Threads" which looked very impressive but I had assumed there would at least be one room of paintings. Sadly no. There is... More
