Amazing staff

We visited here whilst staying in the area late last year. Rather stumbled upon it whilst exploring the town. Seemed a bit quiet was unsure if it were even open at first. However no sooner had we reached the desk and we were greeted warmly. I’m not sure if it’s a regular occurrence but we were assisted almost the entire way round, by a chap with immense friendliness and enthusiasm for the place. Certainly a highlight.

the guides are too enthusiastic, not allowing you time to look at the exhibits. It has a wealth of interesting artefacts.

Very interesting look at local history

I found my visit here to be very pleasant and history, viewing the old police cells and walking around the old court house. I was surprised by how history is kept here and really found my visit a great way to spend a couple of hours.

Packed with information in a brilliant building

The use of the old Police station and court is a really fantastic place to house a museum. Individual displays in cells cover the Police and crime, but who knew how much differing history Margate had, Bathing machines, paddle steamers,Dreamland, WW1, WW2, prehistoric remains etc etc It's all here. Make sure you visit on a day it is open as opening hours are limited. A great place!

Old style Margate

£2 entrance very reasonable for 1 hour visit. Lots of pictures of old Margate. Note steep steps to upper storey.

If you want a first hand history of Margate come here. We wanted to know about the history of the Sea bathing hospital and the theatre. We were not disappointed. Fascinating.

Characterful Museum and Committed Volunteers/Staff
Aug 2019
Visited last Wednesday AM. Myself and my Cousin really appreciated being able to leave our small cases in the Reception. This was done as a favour and we were very grateful. There was lots to see in the characterful old building. We were particularly interested in the history of the Sea Bathing Hospital and the Theatre Royal. Both of these topics were covered. It was also nice to see a whole room dedicated to Dreamland! I was particularly impressed by the way one of the volunteers/members of staff was interested to talk with me further about the history of the Theatre Royal. I was delighted to be able to buy a book about its history, which, if I remember right, had been researched and written by one of the volunteers there. I was glad we were able to visit it, albeit fairly briefly.

Seaside

I am group leader of a fairly local group made up of mostly the older generation. We visited yesterday. A volunteer met us at the door and welcomed us. Another volunteer gave us a short talk before we were left to explore. The talk was very interesting and gave us a good insight into the local history. The museum is crammed with interesing artefacts, depicting the history, and the seaside story. We made it upstairs where more exhibits were located. A really good visit. Thank you.
