Grim. If you want to blend in, bring a grey towelling tracksuit and extract some teeth. Ugly beyond words. Threatening. Litter-strewn. The first thing you see is a tower block that makes Sellafield Nuclear Power Station look like the Sistine Chapel. Utter, utter hellhole.

Visited during a cold spell, and the sands were covered in snow. The beach was still accusable, and various brave souls were walking along, including with their dogs.

A two-minute walk from getting off the train, the location is great. Just around the corner from a Wetherspoons, some independent shops and also Dreamland Margate. Turner Contemporary is just up the path, definitely within walking distance. The main beach is clean, however there was lots of rubbish under the wooden stairs leading to the path, but the view is gorgeous. We went in October and it wasn't too chilly, but it's a great beach for friends, families and individuals.

Visited on a weekday in September to avoid crowds, first impression was how small it looked. Thankfully it wasn't too busy so could social distance safely. Toilets as expected were not the cleanest but working with toilet paper and soap at least but it definitely needs to be modernised. Managed to pre-book parking just opposite which was great as we had our 3yr old. The sand was soft and clean-ish enough for him to play. Way too much seaweed thought, at low tide it was very annoying to try to walk over them either dried up crunchy or wet and squishy, yuk. Could not get over the stench of sewage mixed with fishy smell which literally lasted the entire day. It WAS a hot day but not too windy which may have been the reason? Later on had dinner which had a seafront terrace and admired the sunset...but it still stank :( . Shame really. The seafront does offer a good flat space to walk along with pushchairs and I've noticed that some areas look newly gentrified with bars and cool shops do it seems that Margate has the potential to be a lot better aesthetically, maybe then they would be able to do something about the sewage smell. Would not return anytime soon until they do.
