Quaint little local museum.
Aug 2019
If you are going to Lydd for some reason, or if you are researching local history it is worth calling in, though it is difficult to find in the old Fire Station. `manned from 2 pm by faithful local volunteers it is a small museum filled with all kinds of relics of the past, more or less arranged in groups. Some fascinating stuff to see - and some good documents and old photographs. The local volunteers do a worthy job/

We went on a Friday and were given an extremely informative tour by Roy who was so knowledgeable about all the exhibits and all things Lydd. Children will find it enjoyable too

Interesting little gem!

Visited as part of the Wheels of Time challenge. It is housed in the old town fire station, and is a bit like a tardis, small when you enter and just expands. A good display of Lydd relics, carriages and an original horse fire engine. We were shown round by a very knowledgeable "young" gentleman
,who obviously loves his town. It has disabled toilets and access with a wheelchair maybe challenging, no good for a mobility scooter. There is parking outside and on the road. Well worth a visit. Check website for opening times as they vary

Small but beautiful

Incredible number of artefacts all in one small ex fire station. Do not be fooled by the size of this museum from the outside. You could spend all day in there! Staffed by experienced and extremely enthusiastic volunteers. Interesting for children and adults alike. Highly recommended.

Interesting little place

Was given a tour of this small museum (5 rooms) by Roy, an enthusiastic and knowledgeable nonagenarian. There are lots of interesting bits and pieces to look at including an old fire engine, a horse-drawn coach and a room full of childhood paraphernalia. There were lots of small sections which could easily be overlooked without a guide including information about the Second World War in particular where the bombs landed throughout Kent and PLUTO (Pipe Line Under the Ocean) which enabled oil to be transported out to sea. Not many visitors seem to make it to this museum which is tucked away in the village of Lydd next to the primary school and housed in the old fire station but we were glad we did as it filled up our last afternoon while on holiday in the area.

A little Gem of a Museum
Aug 2018 • Couples
By chance stumbled across this museum en route to Rye. A warm welcome by the three very friendly and helpful volunteers present. Free entry but they understandably welcome donations which we were more than happy to make. Many very interesting and informative displays with extremely interesting artefacts from the town and local area. Well worth a visit to support the preservation of the local heritage of Lydd. Thoroughly recommend 😊

Interesting little museum for a little town, well worth a visit to see the old fire engine. It was a bit bigger than I thought it would be!

Visit to Lydd Museum

Having been recommended this by a customer at a New Romney coffee shop made the point of paying a visit. The museum is run by a very enthusiastic group of volunteers. Offered tea on arrival. Museum is deceptively large with fascinating exhibits. Well worth the visit and came away very impressed- most interesting. Would highly recommend this. Do check opening times.
