The Strand Outdoor Pool
Aug 2021 • Family
The reason it has 3 is because as a family we had a great time, lots of fun and laughter also the lifeguards were friendly, happy and helpful. The deduction is due to the whole place looking tired and neglected. It's an outdoor pool so insects, leaves etc floating is pretty much expected, but the paintwork is peeling and you see that floating, with others objects too. As you go around the lazy river there are bumps for the jets, which many times, I and i saw others trip on them, some have big holes, which I caught my ankle a few times, there isn't anything to say they are there. When you are floating around or pushing a child around, you do forget where they are. It's a shame, as a good clean and paint, it would be fantastic. Maybe paint some waves on the side of the lazy river to indicate where the jets are.
When we went it was overcast and the water is freezing
(But you quickly get used to that) yet the poolside cafe wasn't open for a hot drink, but there is a hot food takeaway cafe just across the park, which you are given a wristband to come back in or take your own flask and snacks, there is plenty of space to sit, but there isn't any tables or.chairs, so take your own too.
At the end of the day, we had a great time, it's just sad to see such a great place in such decline.

Great for families.

This place is full of great things to do. Walk along the river, Crazy Golf, a mine railway, and of course the wonderful Strand Lido Swimming Pool. Something for all really. Obviously walking along or paddling, (or swimming) in the river is free. The paddling pool is also free. Then there are different charges for the train, lido and crazy golf. There is a great little cafe and, very importantly, public loos! I love it in summer or winter.

NAME AND SHAME ROUND 2
Jan 2020 • Solo
You may have read my other review aptly names name and shame regarding whoever it was leaving full dog poo bags coloured red hanging from trees ,
Well that seems to have stopped however
We now have both green and purple covers being left what is wrong with these so called Dog walkers !!!! Pictures attached to review .
The Strand golf course area has now fallen into disrepair
Pitch and put gone
Football golf gone
Broken vandalised urban gym equipment
Five a side pitch unusable
Tennis courts derelict
Crazy gold badly needs repair

Who cleans the green area ?
Who monitors dog walkers that have no intention in clearing there dogs mess !!!!
There are a few painted clear up dog mess
Signs on pavements useless !!!
The trees need some proper tree surgery many have large branches broken and hanging off!!!
Why Medway Council are there no Rubbish and Poo bins on the green area ???
Kids play here dog poo carries a germ that can lead to blindness ?!?!
How Long is this green area going to be there before Medway Council sell it off for Housing !!!
If they are not going to do that why is it not looked after ???

Then you have the youths / kids on off road motorbikes now using it as a Moto x track

One area that is very disturbing is the last car park behind the Sea Cadet hut is now used by homosexual men turning up in there cars mostly after work between 3 and 5 pm and using there cars to go about there sordid business feel free to take pictures of Registration and post here sure there will be some very embarrassed husbands even worse this is done in view of the new Parqour play area ,
Kent police please do something about this (reported nothing done )
Also please post your pictures of dog poo bags and Dog walkers allowing there dogs to do and not cleaning up

Shame on you
The area could be great we need to monitor it as the council clearly have given up and the Police even though it’s 5 minutes from there HQ have no idea
Please post your pics on name and shame 2 .

Been going on and off for 70 years. Seen many changes but still enjoyable, great little train, not like it used to bee with steam miniature engines. Plenty to do. The walk to the sea wall always brilliant

Last swim of the season
Sep 2019 • Family
We visited the pool today (last day of opening for 2019). Having not visited for around 30 years, I have to say that we were pleasantly surprised. The pool has been well maintained and, although a little old fashioned, the changing areas etc were clean and smart. My only qualm was that the water was VERY chilly! I guess that is to be expected in September but I’m certain it wasn’t the 19 degrees as we were advised! We still had fun, it was bracing! It is a salt water pool and it didn’t leave the horrible chlorine nastiness of the local indoor pools. Would recommend a visit (but maybe on a warmer day!).
We all visited the little train and the play parks too - all well kept and the staff we met were friendly.

Always a good visit
Aug 2019 • Friends
We have been regular visitors to The Strand over the years however not as much recently. Today we went down for the Lido before it closes for the summer season. It was cold 🥶 but because today wasn’t as hot it wasn’t that busy. A short 5 min wait to get in at 11am. The pool side was fairly clean. Some additions in the water we fished out (bottle lid, sharpie pen). Toilets needed cleaning. But overall ok. We had great fun for around 3 1/2 hours there. After we went for the crazy golf and train ride. Both now taken on by the cafe. Good to see the train available again full time. Train is £2 per person which isn’t much considering the cost of maintenance for the train and the kids loved it (the driver made a real effort). The crazy golf was fun. Again some areas had been improved which is good to see. We love going down for the train and crazy golf. All in all a really good day. We go when it isn’t crazy hot and aim for less busier days as it can be hectic when it rammed.

Swimming Pool
Aug 2019
This year the pool has been carefully looked after. The salt water is very hygienic. The staff are friendly and the new queuing system has let folk know how long they need to wait. Whether you want a short swim like me or a longer relaxing family break it is a simple old fashioned and proper lido. If the weather is good it gets full but not excessively. They are keen to keep the limits. There is ample parking round the place and the rubbish is kept under control. I can rave on about Gillingham's "secret" for much longer. Go before the weekend. The pool closes for the season.
