Picturesque quayside on Faversham creek.
Sep 2021
We visited Standard Quay in Faversham following a trip to Oare Country Park, looking for early afternoon refreshments and a distraction. There is a good amount of free (though limited to 2 hours), car parking on the quay for visitors and the area can also be reached from the mainline railway station which is walk of just under a mile though a scenic Faversham.
The area is basically an old quayside on the side of the creek with some ageing but picturesque boats moored alongside and accompanying buildings which presumably previously acted as warehouses and workshops for the industries using the quay in its working heyday.
The buildings house an interesting mix of sales units selling amongst other things, antiques, old tools and also a fishmongers. There is an upstairs area (Aladdin’s Loft), selling everything from small crafts to interesting everyday objects from years gone by.
There are two dedicated refreshment areas, aa well as a restaurant open in the evenings, we tend to use the ‘Secret Garden’ and on this occasion we had a latte coffee and sandwich in the garden area which being a sunny day was very pleasant.
We have used it as convenient place to visit to have a walk beside the water and then a browse of the various shops before enjoying a cup of coffee and perhaps something to eat. Most of the sellers in the units are friendly and willing to pass the time of day if you speak to them about their wares.
One of the buildings houses some memorabilia from the quays past and some explanatory texts and pictures which is interesting.
Visitors who enjoy looking at industrial history will enjoy the different types of architecture of the buildings with examples of brick, wooden and also white Kentish weatherboarding.

Good and poor points
Aug 2021
Good points are the free parking, toilets, restaurants and some shops selling old-fashioned tools and souvenirs. Bad points are the parking is restricted to 2 hours maximum. Little reason to go there apart from shopping or eating. The 2 hour limit is too short to use the area as a base for walking in the area.

Excellent tea room
Mar 2020 • Couples
The quay contains several antique shops selling a wide variety of stuff. The team room is very good. Wide range of sandwiches, toasties and cakes. Not cheap but very good food. A nice place to have a stroll and visit the waterfront

a bit of old world
Oct 2019
Vidited here after finding that the btchers we use has moved there. It is a collection of old storage, fishing huts etc going well back in time. There is an eclectic mix of shops, butchers, fishmonger, arts and crafts etc and a very nice cafe. One draw back is the 2hour free parking limit which if you are going shopping and visiting the cafe is not enough. Could not find the notices saying what the charges maybe. There are several old ships moored along the quay, and a small museum dedicated to the Cambria. The site is reasonably disabled friendly although care is needed. If you are tall mind your head when going into the shops!!!! The cafe has what it calls a hidden garden a bit quirky!! Being alongside the creek if you don't wish to shop you can always go for a walk.

Old English Tools
Oct 2019 • Couples
Lovely day at Standard Quay totally spoiled by owner of Old English Tools, who was both rude and aggressive to my OAP husband, for no apparent reason. Made us both feel quite upset and sad. Avoid this store.

Peaceful out of the way spot
Sep 2019
Visited here yesterday. Saw the advert page in Kent Life and decided to give it a go. It is not as large as the advert suggests but we spent a couple of hours including lunch in the Secret Garden and a walk along the creek. Very pleasant indeed. The walk along the creek is great to unwind

Afternoon walk
Jul 2019 • Friends
Parked on the quay which allows you two hours, then explored all the many antique and collectors shops. So much to look at and soon had some buys. Then went for tea and scones in the restaurant, excellent service and sat outside. Lots of sailing barges to look at

Potential
Apr 2019 • Couples
Visited here at lunchtime and try the inside seating area. It just seemed slightly grubby. The tables were dirty and sticky and needed a proper clean and not a cursory wipe. There was about half the tables full and so would have expected a better first impression. We needed to ask for ours to be cleaned. Friendly staff and food was tasty. Our food was good although mine was not as described. I didn’t expect the crusty bread with my soup to be thin sliced. The presentation of the cakes was really good and all looked fresh and tasty. I would visit again but it needs a supervisor who is aware and keeps everything clean.
