I have lived in Deal for nearly 30 years. The market has, until recently, been the highlight of the week and a large part of the spirit that is Deal. A lovely bustling atmosphere, with excellent bric-a-brac and antique stalls. The rather tardy re-opening of the market following lockdown, has seen very shortsighted decision making by new management of the market. These decisions have resulted in a marked reduction in the number of stalls due to the fact that stall holders are no longer permitted to park their vehicles on the plots they rent. The reason given by the manager of the market was that the parking of vehicles takes up space that other stallholders could use. This is factually incorrect as vehicles are parked behind their stalls (and in some cases, they are part of the attraction. Many stallholders are unwilling to unload their produce and then look for a place to park. Parking in Deal on a Saturday is challenging enough, without the added anxiety of having to leave produce unattended. It was interesting to note that management are allowed to park there - not a great example to stallholders. If this decision is allowed to go unchallenged, it will be the death of the market as it used to be.

We love this little Deal market in the carpark. There are lots of different stalls including flowers, fruit and veg, antiques and bits and pieces. The Brownie making lady is the bomb - make sure you grab one or three as we did LOL truly devine!!!

The Saturday market in Deal is buzzing on a sunny Saturday, like today. Probably not worth a visit though on a cold, windy and very wet day like a couple of weeks ago... The specialist foods are increasing in number. Try the fabulous Swedish buns (the Swedish lady bakes them herself) and her little girl helps serve! There are, of course, cinnamon buns, plain or with almonds. Apple-filled buns, cardamom buns, and pistachio buns. Plus cakes. All delicious. There’s a man who sells excellent bread. Check out his beetroot and caraway seed! And excellent cheese, plus local fruit and veg, cut flowers, and some excellent plants for the garden or window-box. And then there’s all the bric a brac, antiques and furniture. Great stuff and a few bargains if you look hard enough. Check out the chap with the reclaimed wood shaker peg rails. Too many stalls to tell you about everything, but you get the drift. A great place to spend an hour on Saturday mornings. I love it!

Nice market, with local foods (bakery, fruits, vegetables) which are worth f you want to get a grasp of the products made or raised in the area (and take some with you). There are also lots of antiques and other stands.
