If you love Golf, you have to try this beauty out, fabulous facilities, Awesome golf course, perfect condition, polite staff.........If you can play to your handicap round here, you are a better man/woman than me. There is nothing unfair about this course, just pure, demanding, seemingly unending, questions being asked of the player........it was a battle.....I lost the battle........but boy did I have a great time NOT playing to my handicap. This IS GOLF! Not sure what it is I play back in London/Home Counties????? But it aint this!!

This is a good example of a links golf course. Like most of these course only play foursomes or St Andrews foursomes. Has good half way house. Watch out for ditch on first hole just in front of green. Long socks required if playing in shorts. Good food in clubhouse. Changing rooms have updated in last couple of years, so very nice.

Stunning golf course in a sensational setting. Lots of interesting and difficult holes. Historic clubhouse. Tough to play but a must if you can

Mid summer 2015 we had signed up months in advance and were excited to to play a "real links course".
The information provided by the course listed the regulations and requirements, including demonstrated less than an 18 handicap.Play must be 4 hours or less (like we experienced at the Old Course in St. Andrews). We paid a very high fee in advance, over $200 U.S per person. When we got there, a large group from a cruise ship arrived just after us. I asked If our foursome could go off before them, but they did accommodate us, although it was definitely possible.
We played an excruciating 3 plus hours on the first nine, then things really slowed down with the humpteen handicap cruise group. After 12 holes we just walked in, very frustrated. The head pro, a very traditional older gentleman, apologized, but said that "bookings are made by the administration":, and there was nothing he could do about it. Eight hundred dollars in greenfees for our foursome!
On the positive side, the course was true links and in good shape, other than any ball hit off he fairway and initial rough was lost in the hay. Other links courses we played were not this way.
We had caddies who were terrific. One even gave us a ride into town to catch a cab.
I felt we abided by all the club's rules, but they did not, at our expense.
Next time I'll book even earlier and play Royal St. George, only a short distance away.

Shocking
Booked in October 23 for feb 24 at £150 per person there was 4 of us
Arrived no flags in the putting green
Started play at 10.30 am with over 90% of the bunkers closed and a lot of standing water on the course
I understand time of year we are playing but a email to say before we come course not in great condition. Would you like to cancel or change date would’ve been nice
Write an email the next day to the Club secretary and the response was basically it is what it is
Won’t be wasting my time with this club again

Great course but stuck in the 19th century... We showed up to play and after paying we were I formed our white socks were to short.... I mean like they had to go to your knees. They said it's on their website but we didn't book thru it. Of course they were very happy to sell us at 16$ each a pair of nasty thigh high socks as not to offend the members. Of who I did ask about this stupid rule and the member said it was bullocks.... And of course the players behind us who were in golf shorts had normal ankle socks on. It was a shame as the attitude of the manager or club pro was very rude and put me off playing there again even though I like the course. To many other great courses in the U. K. to play that are much more friendly to visitors... I have played it three times before with out issue. But not anymore.

This linkscourse is the weakest of its Two neighbours, St Georges and Princess. Here you fond some crazy holes and the fairways are narrow. In combination with strong winds and high ruff this a real test but fun.

A great golf course, we were lucky to play it on a sunny calm day, part of you wants the howling wing etc but we had an an absolutely fabulous round of golf.

Obviously a great golf course. In comparison to RSG, +) less expensive, +) feels more ocean, +) guest tee time available in weekends, -) less memorable layout, -) back nine is not terribly enjoyable as it has 8 par 4s with similar length, mostly all into the wind.
Without a question, this is a great golf course I would like to re-visit. But RSG is even, clearly to me, greater.

If you want to play a true links golf course, this should be at the top of your list. I played the somewhat affordable twilight rate time at 3PM, all by myself and played in 3 1/2 hours with groups in front of me! Never caught up to those groups and still had plenty of time to look for my ball in the fescue which was pointless.
The weather was around 70F, 20C degrees, with 15mph winds consistent.
I've played St. Andrew's (Old Course, Jubilee, New, Strath, Eden), twice each. Also played Carnoustie twice, Gleneagles Queens and PGA, Kingsbarns twice and Royal Cinque Ports was far more difficult than any course I've even played. But as a 26 handicapper, playing without a caddie, I still somehow shot a 90 with 3 pars and one birdie on the no. 2 HC hole. It was a phenomenal experience and I have to play this course again before returning the USA next year.
The greens were as good as any I've played as well.
My only, repeat only complaint is with the yardage book. It gives you NO clue where the fairway is because so many tee shots are totally blind. There were a number of holes where I completely mishit a shot left or right and got lucky enough to actually land in a fairway! Not where I thought the fairway was, but by accidently pulling or slicing a tee shot.
Just a fantastic course!
