We are happy to run pre-booked shows at other times for small and larger groups, just contact us by email, Facebook or telephone, This man-made Universe will take you places you have never been before, from the surface of the Moon to the depth of outer space in our ASTRODOME 360 STAR-THEATRE. Make sure you leave time to explore the various space-science displays and exhibition dedicated the great scientist/inventor Robert Hooke, born in Freshwater in 1635.

Amazing

We really enjoyed the Island Planetarium and we watched 3 shows! The team there are very nice and explain the information very well. The Island Planetarium has a very informative information room where you can learn a lot about space. There are screens that play videos and amazing shows in their Astrodome. Overall I really enjoyed it and after, you can go for a walk around Fort Victoria (where the Planetarium is) or eat a snack at cafe Verdi. I thoroughly encourage you to go and watch the shows! Well done, Island Planetarium!!!😀

Island Planetarium- a delightful surprise
Oct 2021 • Family
This is a small planetarium tucked away in the country park. You could almost miss it. The shop and exhibition area looks dated (but the information is all up-to-date) but the show itself is excellent. All 3 generations of our family loved it and were all hooked on the sheer wonder of space. Paul (who led the session for us) is so passionate and knowledgeable about space and astronomy that it was a delight to listen to him. Thank you for an hour well spent!

Blurry

The assistant showing you to the uncomfortable seats was surly and totally not interested. The dome was blurry and unclear so the educational value of the presentation was lost. You found yourself getting bored because you could not see very well.

A great place to find out more about our universe.

Have been to the planetarium several times back in the 1990s so I was keen to find out if it had changed. No! But that is not a criticism; indeed it is a great place run by very knowledgeable staff who are very keen to impart their knowledge. Saw two shows and enjoyed both tremendously.

Full of character and information

My seven year-old and I absolutely loved this place. Having recently visited the Greenwich observatory planetarium we certainly preferred this on balance: more personal and exciting due to the scale and the attention to detail, with both the show manager and the planetarium owner friendly, accommodating and passionate about the work they present, and the venue. A certainty we'll visit again when next on the Isle.

Brilliantly Quirky

The planetarium is one of the attractions at Fort Victoria on the western coast of the island. Yes, it's small and doesn't have the latest technology but it is wonderfully informative and fascinating. The proprietor set it up when he retired and is a true labour of love. When you talk to him, the passion he has shines through. We had a thoroughly pleasant afternoon and he gave me some brilliant advice on renting moon rocks to use with my class next year.

Do visit and have a chat while you're there - if you love the quirkiness of the Isle of Wight, you'll love the planetarium.

Good value for the price of entry.

It is a bit dated but this is reflected in the entrance fee. My son who's 9 is really into his planets and all things space. He really enjoyed the visit Well worth the money. I wanted to try this out before taking him to the London Planetarium.

Dated and blurry
Apr 2019 • Family
This has such potential but unfortunately failed to hit the mark. Most of the one small room of exhibits were very dated, some displays fallen down, most poorly done. When you took time to read it, the information was fascinating but so poorly displayed it didn’t interest the kids at all. The actual video was good, but very blurry and in this day when we are used to modern technology it felt very dated and was a bit of a let down. My daughter who loves space enjoyed it, my son not so much. I wouldn’t go again.
