About
For over 20 years this lovely model railway has been one of the key attractions here at the heart of the Fort Victoria Area, but has for a long time been suffering and looking tired, now with new ownership we look to rectify all of that and have taken onboard all your comments, concerns and constructive criticism. We are very much looking forward to re-opening the attraction and starring the next wonderful chapter in the life of the Fort Victoria Model Railway - a new chapter that I know will be a very good one and bring delight and joy to all those that visit. So watch this space and we will be delighted to announce the re-opening as soon as we can. In the meantime we wish everyone a safe and happy time.

Fascinating
Oct 2019 • Friends
Like the TARDIS, this place seems much bigger on the inside.
Once in you find the amazing modem railway that seemingly runs for miles and miles through perfectly made little towns and villages.
As the trains run around you can also look at the cleverly put together scenes of little people set up in the tiny streets! (Check out the poor pedestrian in the first town who's been hit by a DHL van while tiny little onlookers gather around to watch!).

Everything is so clever. So much effort has been put into this.
Well worth the little over £4 to get in, especially if it's a cold and rainy day nearby.

(Very well kept public toilets are nearby too)

Large model rail layout closing soon
Oct 2019 • Couples
We had seen this for a few years when visiting the island but hadn’t visited until this week as we had heard that it was closing in a couple of weeks.

The layouts are certainly a labour of love and clearly took many thousands of hours to complete. The spot the figure quiz was also interesting, but overall the layouts did look a bit sorry for themselves and the building was damp and cold, I guess the owners are running it down as it is the final few weeks, which is a pity.

In its heyday it may have been a spectacular attraction but is sadly a shadow of its former self now. Still a good visit if you’re into this sort of thing, worth seeing prior to closure if you’re in the area.

A true labour of love
Sep 2019
Seen as there are no Model Railways where we live we decided to check out Fort Victoria Model Railway while on holiday and although we did find it initially difficult to spot we found it after seeing the big yellow flags, and it is a lot more impressive and intricate than I thought, there has clearly been a lot of time, care and dedication put into the assembly and running of all the little train routes and their environments, I especially liked the way some of the houses lit up, it made it feel alive. I can only imagine how many hours of work were put into this place and, as there aren’t many places like this, I hope it continues to remain open to the public for years to come.

Very good but tired
Sep 2019 • Couples
We enjoyed our visit to see the many layouts on show. They are heavily biased towards European displays and the whole thing could do with a good clean. Sadly the owners are trying to sell the business.

Amazing lay-outs

It costs £5 to get in but you will find that you stare at the layouts, finding little charming details that make this very special. A must for model railway buffs.

Grumpy staff
Aug 2019 • Family
It’s just about ok value for 15 quid for family of 4...although it’s debatable. In half an hour you’ve probably seen it all. Staff grunmpy. My 4 year old made the mistake of shifting his viewing stool with his foot, rather than picking it up. This prompted a cross intervention by one of the staff. Seems a bit over the top. It wasn’t like he was running amok and trashing the place. I get the impression they would rather reserve the place for serious model railway enthusiasts and bar kids altogether but they know this would cripple their finances so they are stuck with having to tolerate kids.

Even the elephant fell for it
Jul 2019 • Solo
I've passed this place several times in the past without going in as it doesn't look particularly exciting from the outside. Today I went it.

Wow, what I've been missing. Lots and lots and lots of modelling details, and plenty of train activity (you have to stay and watch, the trains aren't all moving all the time, they take it in turns, stopping and starting in one or other of the many stations, and adopting alternative routes when they get going).

Aficionadoes would probably find it a bit lacking in prototypical authenticity, but for the rest it can be an enthralling experience. All the youngsters there during my visit were gobsmacked and not wanting to leave when parental command came calling ;-)

And there's a short quiz to draw your attention to the plethora of detail, including the tumbling elephant which apparently broke out of a railcar while crossing over a river, fell to the mud below and survived (allegedly a true story).

Lots of pictures already available here, so although I took many, I've just posted two in respect of the Jumbo Tumble which doesn't seem to have been done before.

Go and enjoy, you shouldn't regret it (although be aware that a few folk seem to have done so - all a matter of taste I suppose).

Old school model railway, kids loved it & spent ages looking for all the hidden secrets - a bull getting a parking ticket.
