Certainly made my day.
Jul 2020
Having been assured that this wonderful C14th church ( and earlier in parts), was open only for private prayer, i was treated to a quick potted history. It is so reassuring to be able to talk with locals who are so passionate about both their religion . A special thanks from me to the gentleman who spent a few minutes with me - it was really enlightening and certainly made my day.

Lots of History
Oct 2019
I was wandering round Yarmouth waiting for the ferry back to the mainland when I found this lovely old church just off the village square. This was the third church to be built on this site, the previous two having been destroyed by French raiders. Although "restored" by the Victorians it still hold lots of history and is well worth a visit. I was pleased to see they still have the hour glass by the pulpit. The glass is about two hundred years old and one can almost imagine the groans from the congregation as the parson reached out to turn it during one of the interminable sermons that used to be given! There are some information boards near the entrance to carry round with you giving the history of the building also a small guide book and postcards for sale.

Interesting church
Oct 2019
We have often visited Yarmouth while waiting for the ferry. This time we were staying at Norton Grange so an easy walk in to the village centre. The church is situated on the square and sadly two previous earlier churches were destroyed during French raids. The present building was consecrated in 1626 and there is much of interest by way of memorials and floor grave stones. There are some interesting paintings from the 17th century of Bible stories. A chapel is dedicated to Sir Robert Holmes who was Governor of the island in the 17th century. It is said that the statue was destined to be of the french King Louis XlV, but the ship on which it was travelling was captured by Sir Robert along with the sculptor. He was ordered to render a likeness of Sir Robert but apparently it bears more resemblance to the French King

Serene 16th century church
May 2019 • Friends
Seeing this lovely old church was the highlight of our visit to Yarmouth. There was a mediaeval church on the site but this was destroyed twice before being rebuilt in its present form in 1635. There’s a fine statue of Admiral Sir Robert Holmes and other memorials to the Holmes family. There are also an interesting series of five 17th century paintings hung on the front of the organ loft near the entrance door. The hammer beam wooden ceiling in the have is a feature. Very well worth visiting.

Almost missed it
Apr 2019 • Couples
We walked by a couple of times and almost missed it. Fortunately, the verger happened to be on site and let us in. There's a treasure trove of interest inside the Church, plus a wonderful Victorian organ and 15 century stained glass windows. Not to be missed, if the opportunity arises.

Nice surprise
Oct 2018 • Couples
We were early for the ferry so walked around the town and found this charming church. Even more surprising, we found that it was open for visitors. In the south chapel is an absolutely stunning memorial to Sir Robert Holmes who was Governor of the island in the 17c. A peaceful place to sit awhile.
