Visited as part of an inclusive ticket from Hoverspeed - family entrance and ferry from Portsmouth. Normal weekend price is about £4.70 each without skates and £6.70 with skates OR Family of 5 with skates for £32.50.
Found next to the Hover terminal in Ryde - Staff weren't particularly friendly and the skates were in very poor condition- after trying on my third pair I stuck with them but gave up after 10 minutes skating as I didn't want a broken ankle - they kept coming undone. Changing facilities were also limited and we ended up sitting on the floor to get the skates on. Our kids seemed to enjoy themselves but even they had to change skates a few times.
There were activities going on on the ice to music that weren't that clear to us - local kids seemed to be enjoying it although as beginners we had to stay out of the way. The assistant on the ice didn't seem too interested in assisting and members of the public seemed more helpful to those that fell.
Bar and Cafe on site. Has seen better days. If I had paid full price I would have asked for my money back.
Tip to owners - train staff , dump all the old skates, brighten it up, clarify whats happening for visitors and have a few more benches.

Nice rink. It was practically empty. We found the rink by chance because our hotel room wasn't ready and just happened to have our skates in the car still !!!! Ice, lockers, toilets, refreshments - you don't need much more from an ice rink really!

Canadian friends who were ice hockey mad brought us to our first ice hockey match with local team Raiders who were awesome and won 10:4 - lots of goals, one fight, & fun had by all esp by 8 kids- a really family atmosphere. Skated before but ticket includes free skating after match in evening (too late for small kids).facilities adequate but rather run down but so much fun we didn't care. Much more enjoyable to watch than football, can understand why Canadians are mad about it.

As a seasoned ice skater who sadly has had all the local rinks taken away, I was looking forward to having one close by whilst on holiday and eagerly packed my skates. I would have got past the poor state of the interior, if the ice had been good. It was beyond terrible! We went during the summer holidays, to a public session and arrived around lunchtime. It was clear to us that the ice hadn't been 'zambonied' (smoothed) in days. It was worse than skating on an outdoors pond. My other half said they were the worst hire skates he had ever experienced and he barely lasted half an hour on the ice, as he found it too much hard work to stay upright. As a figure skater (with my own skates), I was unable to practise any moves and found it hard enough to skate in a straight line in these terrible conditions. Considering it cost almost £18 for the two of us to enter (as they charge you an extra £1 if you pay by card!!!!) it was a total rip off. The entire rink was staffed by two teenagers, consequently there were long waits at the reception desk, the skate hire etc etc. One of them was constantly outside trying to patch up the coolers. This place should have been shut down years ago!

This place is horrid. I went with my family and the ice skates were old and worn they cut in to your ankles! When my some wanted to use the toilet we discovered urine seaping out of the floor! Do they have no idea of health and safely what so ever?!

Planet Ice is your average ice rink. Nothing particularly noteworthy; during the week there are various sessions available such as normal daytime (well lit!) sessions but also disco nights with loud music and flashing lights etc. There is a small cafe selling drinks, chips etc, at an average price. Skate hire is also available for a couple of £s. During a recent visit however I was displeased to find that the lockers have been replaced - they used to be similar to swimming pool lockers, where you insert a coin to use it and this is returned to you afterward. The new ones are high tech things where you have to enter your date of birth and select a symbol, and enter these to open the locker when you return to it (I suppose to avoid lost keys etc). The lockers cost £1, however, and this is NOT returned to you... this in itself would not be too unreasonable, except that you cannot open and close the locker. Once you have closed it, you cannot open it until you are ready to leave as that's when you lose your £1... therefore you cannot go back to put away a sweatshirt, get a drink etc. Clearly designed to encourage people to spent more than £1, or to purchase drinks from the cafe rather than bring their own. Whatever the reason, it seems very unfair at an attraction where you can't very well keep your belongings on you. This has put me off visiting again...

I took my son ice skating for the very first time and I have to say we both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
The boots were adequate, but I have to say the lever type securing straps were a bit tricky but we managed.
Onto the ice, my son with a supporting penguin (£3 for 30 mins), and we were off...well once I let go of the side we were!! Its been quite a while since I last skated but I managed to let go of the side after five minutes and actually enjoyed myself.
The rink was good, and although fairly busy it was far from overcrowded.
I had ensured that we were both wrapped up and we bought gloves at the rink (a very reasonable £1 a pair) so the coldness did not make any difference to either of us.
By the end of our time on the ice, just over an hour, my son was wobbling quite merrily on his own and I could not have imagined a better start for him on the ice.
Excellent. Will be back again.

This is a tired looking ice rink. Quite expensive for a family to enter and shabby. As I was only a spectator I was not charged to enter, but my family paid a lot, including hiring novelty penquins at £6 each per hour, which helps children stay upright. I availed myself of the café facilities inside the rink, which were very basic indeed. 1960's 'Joes cafe' springs to mind. Builders tea served in a paper cup, I didn't eat anything as I didn't like the look of it and it was expensive too. The whole area was dirty looking. We were unable to use the toilets as due to a leak of some sort, the area was closed off. The children enjoyed themselves.

The kids love it here and ask to go all of the time but it is Sooooo dirty, awful area for spectators and speed skating people dive between other skaters and don't get stopped by staff!
Disappointing for me but have to go back to keep the kids happy as no where else to go ice skating in the area.

Visit there! Its easy to say why! Go there and you will have a great day out! Lots of food is available there so why not eat there as well. Its normally quite busy during the holiday but so quiet after school or work!
