Just over the road from The Piano Cafe, we popped in to see the church, having driven past it several times.

A quaint little building which was very well maintained but also a still and calming place.

Well worth a visit

We saw this church while on the way to Dimbola Lodge Museum, we needed to take a closer look as it is rare to see a church with a thatched roof.

Very well maintained inside and out

It is difficult to pass the "Thatched Church" without stopping for a visit. It is a delightful little Anglican church dating to the early 20th century. The staff was most helpful in providing directions to Freshwater bay.

When visiting the Island, full of attractions, please don't miss this walk in the past, the most beautiful thatched church in the world.
Visit the past in this idyllic porthole time capsule and taste peace, love and contentment thru the age's,it's all here, shelved wooden seating, with monogrammed cushions await,a heraldic delight, twisted wooden beams in what must be the perfect, spiritual church in the world, weddings, christenings and the rest.as close to our maker as it can be :)

Well worth a visit - very close to Farringford (Tennyson's home) and Dimbola Lodge (museum and once-home of pioneer Victorian portrait photographer Julia Cameron)

It's worth spending a few minutes looking over the church building and its thatched roof - the only thatched roofed church on the Island (and I doubt there are many in the UK!!). A snap shot into a tiny corner of our varied British history.

On a bleak and bitterly cold day in February this church looks warm and welcoming with Its unusual thatched roof. Inside the simplicity of its bare stone walls, small windows grouped in twos and threes and rows of chairs instead of pews create a homely atmosphere. Your eyes are drawn up to the warm tones of the vaulted roof. The whole interior looks light and warm and has a timeless, rustic charm.

The church is only just over a hundred years old, but much of the stone used to build it came from a disused seventeenth century farmhouse. On the roof there is a little bellcote with a single bell. The land on which the church stands was donated by Lord Alfred Tennyson's eldest son, Hallam and was part of the Tennyson family's Farringford Estate. It is to be found on the road that leads from Freshwater Bay, past Dimbola Lodge, signposted to Totland and The Needles.

A booklet giving a brief history of the church and postcards are on sale just inside the entrance.

not as old as it looks, only 120 years old, but still very pretty, part of a larger church near by, but worth a look around

Can’t think of any other thatched church I have been to, although there are some in the east of England. A nice church, really interesting and worthy of a visit

We visited in order to solve the clues for finding the nearby Geocache. Really lovely and very unusual church in a beautiful setting.
