The Isle of Wight Military and Heritage Museum is operated by and for a registered charity . The charity uses any excess income from that museum to support ex service personal . It is firmly under the control of a board of trustees with a professional management team in place . This will secure the museum as a living memorial to the sacrifices that ordinary people are , all to often , called upon to make when diplomacy fails and armed conflict breaks out . It brings together items of historical interest and is largely staffed by volunteers who are typically ex service people who regularly give guided tours and talks . It has a cafe and the fully licensed Mess Bar in a former barracks building . The museum is not just a store of artifacts, it aims to be a hub for ex-service personnel to meet , share their knowledge and experience and access services tailored to their needs. The museum also provides volunteer posts for others in need . Any surplus income and donations from the museum go towards furthering these aims.

When we visited we were pleaseantly surprised to be treated to a private tour by one of the volunteers called Graham he approached us and showed us round all the military vehicles which was great to know the background of them. They are working on exhibits all the time and collecting new articles for display. They had lots of uniforms... More

I visited this museum some six years ago when it was tank/ military vehicle museum. I know it had closed in between my visits. Not sure what to now expect . I found a small but growing museum with many interesting items. An admission price of £4 for each concession ticket cannot be faulted. They still have a few of... More

Visited with my partner last week whilst on holiday. His initial comment when we arrived was that it was such a shame that the 2 tanks in the car park weren't all painted up even if they weren't working as they looked dismal. He is ex army and was enjoying telling me about the things he had used and driven... More

Visited here April 2016 on a wet day and the museum was quite when we visited. Quite enough for a member of the staff to walk around with us and answer questions on the vehicle and to provide some interesting facts on displays. There are plenty of interesting exhibits, first time I've ever handled an AK47 and a Russian infantry... More

What a quaint lovely little museum to visit if you are interested in military history (which my husband very much is!). There is a reasonable selection of military vehicles to look at, including a handful of tanks (please be prepared though- this isn't the tank museum, so if you're expecting lots of tanks you will be disappointed), various military uniforms... Hi . I am sorry about that bad experience that clouded your otherwise enjoyable visit . The museum is run by a charity and only has one full time and one part time member of staff . The guides are mostly volunteers who give up their time freely in support of our main charitable aim - educating the public in... More

We enjoyed our visit here with my young son, age 6. Just the right size museum for a little person. The added option of a ride in the personnel carrier an attraction. The well stocked mock war shop interesting. Staff helpful and genuinely keen to share knowledge. Nice hour out. Slightly expensive but good if weather not great. Nice cafe... More

Visited here on Easter Monday and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff were very friendly and helpful. One of them even took us round the vehicles explaining all their history. Well worth the couple of hours we spent there. Look forward to returning when we are over again as it looks like they are expanding upstairs. Also to see the tanks... More
