This is not like any other manor house that you have ever visited and I would recommend the guided tour of the house. Parts of the house range from 16th century and others 20th century. It was in a state of disrepair and was saved by an American billionaire, who decided to fill it with items that he deemed appropriate.... More

600 years old with a chequered history. Well worth having the guided tours as one learns so much. Easy to walk around and tour takes around 45 minutes. Grounds and gardens are well worth walk around. Very nice tea room with a good choice. Try the ham platter, the ham is wonderful.

We arrived for lunch, which was very good indeed in the beautiful orangery with stunning views. There are timed tickets for the 45 minute house tour, given out at Reception. The tour was very interesting and the guide had a very individual style, which we enjoyed. The gardens are beautiful too. There's a play area for children. Back to the cafe... More

What a great and inspiring garden. Good as the photos and charming and romantic. We were in a rush so never managed to beat the maze and get to the top of the tower. Kids of all ages would like this. A must see bucket list garden.

The castle (actually more of a manor house) has a beautiful and impressive frontage and can be seen as you enter the main gate. The visitor entrance is round the side and on the day I visited access to the castle was by guided tour. Only the front of the castle and particularly the entrance is from the medieval period... This almost hidden castle & it's gardens were not known to us but we are so glad we visited them as part of a coach trip yesterday. The gardens must be the best we have ever visited & I count many National Trust gardens in those. It was so imaginative, colourful, interestingly laid out & a joy to see. We did not visit... More
