Mischief in the mountains - Andorra 2020
This was the first time The Snow Centre yearly mischief trip partnered with Neilson holidays. There were around 60 of us. The change to half board went down really well, not only was the food really good and plentiful at The Neilson Hotel Del Clos, but it allowed us all to all freely mix at dinner, in the lounge and bar, instead of in individual self catering apartments we had the last 2 years. The snow centre hosts Rob, Trina, Keith, Penny and DaveT were fantastic as always. Rob organised transfers from the Snow Centre to Gatwick which worked a treat; although Neilson need to get their act together on sharing information - if it's a Snow Centre/Neilson trip, then hiding behind GDPR excuses is not acceptable and almost blew our chances of sorting out the coach and trip hoodies. Rooms were a good size, plenty of wardrobe space and room keycard operated the safe. Couple of radiators in the room too which allowed us to dry clothes and gloves. The ski lockers on the ground floor of the hotel were very good, room keycard access to each locker, heated boots and a large area to get ready and also plenty of space to service our boards. The price of the holiday once the inclusive 6 pack of snow centre lessons is included, was reasonable. Andorra Grandvalira ski area is large enough, good variation in pistes and parks, fortunately it did finally snow a little on Friday morning, which allowed us to find a little powder that others hadn’t for the last 2 days. The one gripe would be the cleaner was a little overzealous in the rooms, we had to resort to hiding everything in drawers to prevent things like usb charge cables being tied in bows. However the upside is the cleaners OCD meant the hotel was very clean. Summary: The hotel was really good, the snow centre staff were amazing, the resort was good, however Neilson and Snow centre need to work harder to make sure the holiday has shared ownership so that guest contact details can be shared between TSC and Neilson - likewise there needs to be links back to the mischief crew to give new people the opportunity of meeting the rest of us on a Tuesday night 8-10pm at the snow centre if they wish before the holiday.

Perfect way to introduce yourself into snowboarding.
Have had 4 group lessons here and managed to pick up snowboarding very quickly. Although there is only one instructor for a group of about 6-8 people, they still manage to get some 1-2-1 time with you within the 2 hour lesson! Can not say a bad word about any of the instructors I've had. Chelsea stood out though as her teaching style and positive energy makes you pretty relaxed even if you do fall a few times! She also has a good eye for what small changes need to be made to improve your technique etc. Nice touch having a little debrief at the end of the lesson with a beer or soft drink (included in lesson price) in the bar upstairs with your instructor.

Great but time your visit well
We did private lessons on consecutive weekends. The two could not have been more different. Week one: The learner slope was so busy that you literally could not move. Our instructor, while polite, did not engage with us and we could barely hear her. She gave no feedback and we had no idea of our progress, or the next step. Week two: Slope much quieter, plenty of room. Excellent instructor, Neil Presence, we cannot praise him enough. He engaged with the children, was helpful, informative and actually interested in developing our interest in skiing. He took time at the end to explain our progress and encourage us to continue. I would highly recommend going to the snow centre prior to a ski holiday, but find out the quieter times and request an instructor that has good reviews. A good instructor really does make all the difference.
Hi ajb2009 Thank you for taking the time to review your experience with us at The Snow Centre. Please to read you enjoyed your lesson with our instructor Neil. Disappointing to read the first lesson was not so enjoyable. Your feedback will be fed through our internal training programme. We look forwards to welcoming you back as soon as we can re open. I booked a lesson on March 2nd for my twin boys are 3.5 and Louise, the instructor started by asking them to carry their skis when they could barely walk in their boots. She was rude, dismissive and altogether very unsettling. The first opening 15 minutes was a comedy of errors I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, I was in complete shock. She shouldn’t be allowed to teach children, her energy and choice of words was like she had never spoken to a child before. I was forced off the piste even though my youngest who takes a while to settle in was about to burst into tears and the £77 (for him alone) I paid be a complete waste. She kept repeating she would be in big trouble if I didn’t get off the piste straight away! When the lesson was ending another ski instructor told me I couldn’t wait at the base of the piste where I was told to wait by Louise and very rudely asked us to leave. Honestly it’s the biggest waste of £154 for 60 minutes I will ever see and i’m simply never doing it again! I couldn’t be more disappointed.

Hi HuwWarren Thank you for taking the time to review your experience with us at The Snow Centre. It is disappointing to read your review and a real shame you will not consider bringing your children back as we have had much success teaching children in the last 10 years. I appreciate it is quite a challenge watching your children walk off in to a strange new environment with an instructor. Although we appreciate the difficulty parents face we have found it is better in the longer run to allow the instructor to conduct the session. Having a parent involved in the lesson can disrupt the learning climate making it harder for the children to adjust and the instructor to run a productive session. With children 3 to 4 years old we would recommend half hour lessons one to one for the best outcome. We do ask guests when not in a session to remain off the slope for their own safety and the safety of other slope users. I am sorry if this was not communicated in a more positive way. I am confident we can find a positive solution for you so I will be in touch to discuss further options. We visited on a weekday afternoon for a Beginners Level 1 Adult 2 hour Group Lesson. Thomas was our instructor and the session went really well. Pacing was pretty much perfect, pushing us along at just the right pace to make progress quickly while not pushing too far. There were 10 people in our 2 hour session. By the end, everyone could snow plough, with some able to complete snow plough turns. Equipment hire all went smoothly. We felt it was extremely good value at weekday rates.

Smashing lesson with Neil. I’d learned to ski previously, but was rusty and nervous, and he set out a fantastic lesson that was the perfect balance of boosting in confidence and challenging at the right points to push on a little further, adjusting as necessary to make sure I got the absolute maximum out of a very last minute lesson. He went absolutely above and beyond for me, and I cannot recommend him enough, including to friends who need refresher or complete beginner training.

Nothing was an issue, or too much trouble for any of the staff I spoke to today, and I will definitely be a returning client. We’ll see how the legs feel about tomorrow!

Me and a friend were booked onto a 3 hours beginners Snowboarding course in December. Unfortunately, we were involved in a serious car crash on route to the Snow Centre and were unable to contact them due to both being taken to hospital.

However, when I reached out to the Snowcentre and explained what had happened weeks later they couldn't have been more accommodating and provided us with a full credit refund to re-book with them.

Brilliant customer experience so far. I'm hoping this continues when I hit the slopes next week!

Had a 2hr Level 1 Snowboarding session with Instructors Harry and Joe who were both enthusiastic and patient with me and the group.

I was up and sliding on toe and heel edges and putting together 180 turns, without taking other people out, within the session.

The Centre was busy but seemed to be well run and the equipment was good quality. The post-session catch-up with Harry was very informative and included a drink of our choice.

The only minor niggle I had was that checking in via the tablet meant I missed the sign about needing to pay for hire clothing at the reception desk.

It wasn't until I'd collected my board, boots and helmet did I realise I had to go back and pay, by which time there was a large queue and I had to leave my equipment unattended.

Other than that though, I'll be back as soon as I can.

We have used the centre now for quite a while now and have completed a variety of lessons for both adults and kids . The staff are fantastic and very friendly. The instructors have a lot of patience with the kids and it is clear that they enjoy teaching. Lift passes for the month are great value for money as are the group sessions which are often under full capacity. It can be a little pricey if only booking for single lift passes. The Lodge has a reasonably priced menu and again, the staff here have always been keen to help and get things right. On the few occasions when I have had an issue with the order, this was corrected promptly and with a sincere apology.

We’ve been coming to the snow centre since it opened, we are at a good level and enjoy the whole experience apart from checking in. Be warned in busy times it takes 20 mins of queuing just to give your booking number in and getting your tickets. It really is time to have self scanners with a bar code on your phone to cut the waiting time. Does it stop us coming, not at all we just arrive earlier every time we come

As a teacher myself, it was a real joy to see a true professional at work. Neil immediately engaged both the teens and parents before the lesson, making everyone feel that they were in safe, capable hands. The lesson progressed with pace and challenge so that my son made swift progress and left the dome feeling confident and accomplished. Due to Neil's teaching points and enthusiasm, my son is now desperate to tackle the slopes in Austria.

Finn really enjoyed his 2nd ski lesson. However, he didn't get to have many runs in his 1 hour lesson (6 I think or maybe 7) due to the overcrowding of his time slot. It took 15min before he had his first run but thankfully speeded up as earlier starting groups finished. More efficiency is needed with getting the kids up the travellator. Often the kids waiting next are not told to get on the travellator until the kid at the top as skied off while instructor watches. So 20+ seconds is wasted each time while they wait for the next child to get to the top. This adds up to a lot of wasted ski time over an hour. Other than that the instructors were great and very encouraging to the kids. After the lesson I heard another parent complaining to Vicky about the lack of runs this time and she said that due to Covid restrictions being relaxed there were a lot more children allowed in lessons so it was busier. This may be the case but doesn't help when you are paying a lot of money for so few ski runs.

Hi 733matthewd Thank you for sharing your feedback. Sorry to read you felt the lessons had been too busy. I have passed your feedback on to the slope manager so further assistant for the uplift can be discussed with the Team. I am really pleased Finn enjoyed the ski lesson and you have given us a great score based on that. We are in the peak of the season right now so I would expect the slope to calm down a little in the next few weeks. We hope Finn continues to enjoy skiing with us at The Snow Centre. This is my second snowboarding holiday with the Tuesday night Mischief crew. As with last seasons (March 2019) trip to Nendaz, Switzerland this seasons (January 2020) trip to El Tarter, Andorra with Rob, Katrina, Keith, Penny, David, Neilson Holidays, and sixty-five Mischief makers was terrific.

This year is the first year The Mischief trip has partnered with Neilson Holidays, and this brought a few welcome changes.
* The entire Neilson team were friendly and engaging. The live music with plenty of audience participation on the last evening was particularly memorable.
* The half-board catering was excellent, both delicious and plentiful.
* Neilson's also offer free guiding, and coaching with the Grandvalira Ski School. I used this twice, the first time on the first morning to get a tour of the local pistes, and a second technical session later in the week focused on carving from the basics through to frontside (toes), and backside (heels) eurocarves.

I am already counting down the days until the Mischief returns next season.
