This is how golf should be played. A wonderful welcome followed by tasty coffee and sausage bap. Then out onto the first tee with an excellent introduction to the course and 18 very varied and well presented holes, alongside lakes canals and rivers. Then back to some great food and drink while your clubs and trolley are cleaned. Loved it all.

Invited to the corporate Arsenal golf day and, as I’d never played a course of this merit, was unsure what to expect.
On arrival friendly staff took our clubs and mounted them in our buggy for the day, then indoors for coffee and bacon roll prior to complimentary pyramid of balls on the driving range.
Treated like professional golfers by the attentive staff, nothing was too much trouble and the course, well what can I say? Excellent condition, great layout, speedy greens and the best course I’ve played since starting golf many years ago.
Would I have paid the normal green fees to play here? Not sure but wow, what an experience to have been able to play such a prestigious course made even more enjoyable by the support of the excellent, knowledgeable and friendly staff around the facilities.

Okay firstly yes it’s very expensive But luckily I was a guest. The overall attention to detail from staff is excellent and the club facilities etc were great as you would expect.

I thought the course was really interesting and the condition exceptional. The fairways are like my home course greens only with longer grass. Despite the lack of rain nothing was dry and fairways and greens were soft.

I had a superb day.

Thank you Grove Golf Club

Cannot fault the course - absolutely beautiful condition and great location.

However, my card for buggy rental was charged a total of 4 times for 1 rental (I was informed they had my card on their system so could put this through without need for chip and pin on the day).

Having realised my card was charged several times after the round, I rang Golf at the Grove to inform them of this. It took several attempts over several days to be able to contact someone that could 'resolve' the issue. I was promised that the issue had been passed to the accounts team and would be contacted within 4 days.

It is now the 9th of September, having played the round on 7th August and I am yet to hear back from The Grove. After several attempts to resolve this (with me having to follow-up / chase) I have given up and passed this on to my credit card company to resolve.

The staff at The Grove need to understand that an additional £180 for a £60 buggy is actually a substantial amount of money to some people. Very disappointing that the customer after care for this is so poor.

Probably best for others to ask for their card to be taken off the system so this does not happen to them!

I visited the The Grove with three others for golf yesterday. I am a regular visitor to the Grove and we had breakfast and lunch in The Stables which was great but I wont be rushing back anytime soon

There is a common theme on the poor reviews that The Grove are likely to cancel bookings because they make a commercial decision if a big Corporate comes up with a better offer. Thats great but when you are upsetting people that work in Watford and are in the restuarants at least two or three times a month and on the golf course 3 or 4 times a year it soon adds up

As four of us have busy diaries we booked the golf six months ago for the 24 September and were told they would confirm a month before. They did ring but to cancel as guess what they had a big corporate booking

Luckily we did manage to come up with yesterday as a rescheduled date and we duly pitched up . We had bought vouchers for the golf via a local cricket club sporting dinner auction. The first problem was that although they had all the voucher numbers with the booking we physically only had three with us and initially they wanted another £185 to cover the missing one . The vouchers are tracked (I have found the missing one in my office today) and were due to run out in a week so it was a ridiculous stance

We had just got over that problem when the next arose

They said they wanted a further £120 as are rescheduled date was a Thursday and it was busier then so it was another £30 a head and it was in the small print of the vouchers. Why didn't they tell us at the time of rebooking as the e mail implies that the voucher numbers specifically covers the cost. The golf course was NOT busy as we were told if we started at the 10th we would have no problem when we got to the 1st as there were no booked slots after 10am !!

Looks like the local restaurants being St James , The Alpine and The Clarendon Arms will be getting additional business

This is the best you can get without actually joining a private club! Terrific service, food, facilities and of course the course!

Brilliant course, challenging PAR4 holes and some water hazards, pretty and exceptionally well maintained.

Very disappointed with the condition of the course. 20th Feb 2018
An abundance of pitch marks, divots and very muddy around the greens.
I have played the Grove many times but have never known it to be this badly kept. During my round, I mentioned my disappointment to the golfing staff, who agreed with me and advised I should complain at the end of round but also mentioned the winter twilight fee we paid was for the "whole Grove golf experience" and not just the golf…What!!
After sending a few emails and no response back I called the pro shop who put me in touch with “Brad” in golf management. I expressed my disappointment with the lack of up keep and how we had looked forward to our day out golfing. He had no empathy whatsoever and took umbrage when I criticised the course. He advised I was the first to complain and made me feel I was complaining for the sake of complaining. "You do not treat customers like this"!!

I have stayed and dinned in the Grove many times, but after this personal experience and appalling after care service, I nor my colleagues will be returning!!

Also food in the Stables bar was expensive and very average.

We booked to play there on the 27th December at a reduced price of £70 with a group of another 15 golfers. When we arrived we were told that there will a be a delay in our tee times of approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours because of the frost. We then went to have a coffee whilst we were waiting and were charged nearly £5 for a cup. Disgraceful!! At around 11 (the latest time to tee off because of day light hours) we were told that the course in now playable and we will have a shot gun start. We were all very pleased that we were going out to play. However, when we went out most of the greens were frozen and at least 4 to 5 holes including fairways were totally white from frost. This made the course unplayable. When we finished I wrote a polite e-mail to the Club asking for some sort of compensation for the poor condition of the course especially after paying £70 x16 players, totalling £1,120. I received a response from them making it crystal clear that and I quote "on this occasion we will not be extending compensation to your Group". In other words they totally disregarded what I and my Group had to say so that they can avoid having to pay some sort of compensation. POOR POOR service and the course is nothing to write home about. AVOID at all costs. There are better course in the area that treat visitors with respect and are not all about money.

Having tried to go to Woburn to celebrate my friends 60th birthday, my next choice was The Grove, a course none of us had played but the reviews were very impressive. Woburn was fully booked, but to be honest, the Grove is a class above.
We arrived via a long driveway passing two hotels before coming to the golf entrance. After stopping the car it was taken away and valet parked and our clubs cleaned and put into buggies/ trollies whilst we signed in. We were shown reception who, after payment took our details so that metal bag tags could be engraved. Through a myriad of corridors to the well proportioned changing facilities with Espa toiletries. After visiting the pro shop which is attached back at reception, we then went for breakfast. There are two or three area for drinks or light/ quick food but we went for the proper dining area for a sit down breakfast. Nice setting overlooking the courtyard and the putting area the food is a bit toppy but this is The Grove and you get what you pay for. Service was a touch slow but we were in no hurry and the chef had also done us fried bread as an extra that is not on the menu so a lovely experience. Then it was back via reception to collect our clubs ready for the range, about 100yds away. When you reach there a member of staff greets you and takes your name and confirms tee time so he can ensure you are not late to start. The balls are unlimited and stacked on the practice areas in pyramid form. I believe they are grass and quality matting but the grass was being kept for The Masters. No problems there. A quick putt and into the first tee. Another official there who was very relaxed and asked us to help ourselves to the freebie cabinet, tees markers course planners pitch mark repairers etc.
the course was great, quite open but horrendous rough and tight fairways. Beautiful greens. Not a bad roll or pitch Mark in site. A steward comes round to ensure speedy play, no hassle unless you are really slow. At the end of the round another steward takes your bags and cleans the clubs which are put into your car for you when you want to leave. You are also given your metal bag tags. Awesome. Finally into the bar for drinks, with nice touch of free crisps and popcorn. What a day and experience. You pay a lot of money, but it is for everything not just the course. You are made to feel special yet no one is snobby. This is part of Troon Golf and I will definitely look for other Troon golf courses as this is quality all round. I cannot afford these sort of places on a weekly round but as a treat I would come here again, and definitely put it in front of woburn. Enjoy
