On a sunny morning we took the short path between shops on the Main Street to the Garden which was in superb condition. Not huge, but seeming larger as it is split into different areas. Late morning and many of the seats were occupied by friends catching up after the reduction in lockdown requirements. Lovely atmosphere and we spent some time enjoying the planting and the varieties of bird life present. Highly recommended.

I walked by this place and I decided to look at it. This space is ideal if one wants a quiet place to read, walk or write. The sundial was lovely and I enjoyed looking at it. The upkeep is excellent.

Whilst visiting Petersfield we came across The Physic Garden and had a lovely walk around in the winter sunshine.
The garden is run and managed by volunteers and is clearly loved.
Plenty of seats are offered and it would be a perfect place to come in your lunch hour for some peace and tranquillity.
Birds were singing and we saw a Robin and he was very tame.
There were snowdrops and crocuses in flower and these looked very pretty and a sign that spring is on the way.
It would be great to return later in the year to see the garden in a different season.

I am glad you enjoyed your winter visit. Please come again and as you suggest maybe bring your lunch and enjoy one of the seats.

Not sure what part is supposed to be peaceful.... we walked round and out because of the unsavoury looking characters in there... may as well have been the local library on a council estate where the local alchies and junkies go... awful and really not that much to see...

Whenever I am down near Petersfield I pop in to the Physic Garden. It is an oasis of quiet. The well placed benches allow you to sit and relax or sit and chat with a friend. When I was there the apples were ripening and the flowers were out.

What a lovely review. Thank you for taking the time to tell us of your enjoyment. It is tremendous encouragement for the volunteers to know the Garden provides so much pleasure.

Back to the physic garden to see what springtime brings to the flowers, trees and herbs. Wasn’t disappointed as the photos show. This is a tranquil oasis in the heart of the town which many probably just walk past. We sat down and drink a tea and hot choc whilst admiring the garden.

This is a well kept secret that we stumbled on years ago and each time we visit Petersfield we go and pay it homage, with fond memories of the sense of well-being we enjoy each time.
Do yourself a favour - stop over at Waitrose or M & S and buy a simple lunch snack and walk a few paces,no more, to go and enjoy it in a quiet beautiful space as you watch the robin do exactly the same thing in front of your eyes.
To know that this is such a loved and well-kept place where the earth and what it nurtures is tendered and shared generously with ordinary people who pass by adds to what one takes in.
I'm challenged to share this with you rather than keep it a secret!

Thank you so much for your kind review. It encourages our volunteers to know the garden brings pleasure. Sorry I did not meet you when you visited as I believe you have a lovely wild flower garden in Hermanus which I would have liked to have heard about.

Wr were walking our lunch off from La Piazzetta and I decided to revisit this garden with my friends. I have not been there for some 7 or 8 years. It is a little oasis of peace and calm in Petersfield. Unfortunately whilst there are some intersting plants, the place was looking a little unloved in areas and I note an appeal for volunteers,

Petersfield Physic Garden is a beautiful oasis of tranquility and in the summer the planting is of its best. Often used as a place to sit and read or eat your sandwiches it is appreciated by all who have discovered it. The planting is labelled and interesting to walk around finding out about the look and smell of the plants. There are also trees. It is not very large and need not take a great deal of your time to visit unless you want to linger and rest a while. I think it is best in the summer months but also worth a visit at other times of year so that you might find you want to come back again to see another season. Free entry.

Sorry - have only just found your question. So sadly although we like dogs we do not allow them in the garden. If a warden is on duty they are usually happy to look after your pet during your visit

What is parking like here? Is there nearby parking? Also do you have a cafe/toilets?

There is plenty of nearby public parking in the town (chargeable at £1.40 for 2 hours but can claim back 50p if you spend £5.00 at Waitrose) and also free on street parking limited to 30 minutes. We do not have a cafe but there are many in the town as are public toilets. Ours is only a small garden but if you have time you could visit the Lake and a lovely lakeside cafe The Plump Duck where you can usually park for free (3hours limit) and walk into the town and our garden
