We decided to stop en-route back from Cornwall to break our journey to the north of England the following day. The castle itself is stunning, but the service - absolutely dreadful, one of the worst experiences we have encountered in our many years of travel....More

My wife and I spent the weekend here recently and loved every minute of it. It's a unique place and there is a real 'wow factor' as you drive up and also as you enter the building. We had a lovely room (Mary 1st) with...More

We have dined here a few times and stayed once before. Although we don't live far away, we love staying here after a meal. The rooms are gorgeous and I love the sense of history that oozes from the place. We were given the Lady...More

We stayed in Thornbury Castle (TC) for one night, as we'd intended to a month previously but had to re-schedule. It's an actual castle, dating in bits back to Saxon times, and rehabilitated from the 1800s on (and still going). I'd got a cheap B&B...More

Stayed here only 1 night (2 would have been better). Fabulous setting. Boys loved staying in a castle. Gardens are picturesque. Said to be 1 of 3 most haunted castles in Europe with a church & graveyard next door which only added to the coolness...More

A beautiful surroundings marred by the fact that they would not allow us to have just coffee and turned us away saying they had no room - obviously the empty tables and chairs on the courtyard green weren't usable!

Visited the restaurant for our anniversary celebration and had a wonderful evening in exquisite settings. It truly was fine dining at it's best. A pre-meal drink and canapes in the drawing room set the tone for excellent service throughout our visit. All of the staff...More

We went for afternoon tea and its a beautiful location but the food was decidedly average. Unusual sandwich fillings and a strange twist on the traditional cakes were not great. The scones were lovely, still warm but rather small. The tea was very nice but...More

We stayed for a couple of nights for my birthday. What better way to celebrate than in a castle! Plenty of parking with a short walk to reception. We stayed in the Portlethen room on the first night. It’s more of an apartment as it...More

Its not cheap - £47 for two. You can get a cream tea for a bit less and a luxury tea for a lot more, but this was perfect for a celebration. Plenty to eat, and they provide a box for what you cannot manage.
