Lovely little museum, as a local it's so nice to have good free local museums and in Southend we are lucky to have a few and this is one of the best. Lots of local history and the exhibits change quite frequently, you also have the added pleasure of the planetarium, usually Saturdays and I think Wednesdays for school trips... More

Will fill an hour but not much more. The displays are informative but dated and innovative real order. The planetarium which was our real reason for visit has a cost involved and only runs at certain times which sadly did not fit in with our car park. Thankfully, there was a Biba exhibit which had an interactive quiz which kept... More

A small but well-stocked museum that covers the local history of the Southend area and also houses temporary exhibitions (Currently showcasing BIBA the fashion line from the 70's) Look out for the interesting world war one history and the single person air raid shelter from WWII The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The museum also houses a Planetarium but... More

I popped in one lunchtime while attending a week-long course just across the road in Victoria Avenue and would highly recommend a visit to anyone. Not only are the exhibits really interesting, I learnt quite a bit about the local area: I was not aware that Southend was the first location to be bombed during WWI by the Zeppelin, being... More

I took my two young children here during the February half term break. A very small but interesting museum. Great selection of artefacts. Currently displaying World War exhibition, very interesting, interactive and nicely displayed. Staff are friendly and helpful.

I was really surprised that it's free to come here, not massive but plenty of things to look at and learn about, I particularly enjoyed the history of Southend through the ww1. Well worth a visit for half and hour or so

A lovely building with staff that are so very friendly. Currently there's a good World War 1 room where my 7yr old grandson learnt quite a bit. But they are being so starved of money that it seems so very old fashioned. Some days they can't stay open through lunch because there's not enough staff. There's a very interesting story... More
