Pleasant area with good coffees and snacks
Aug 2021
This is our local 'go-to' place for a coffee and has been very special in recent months with restrictions on travel etc. The coffee served is good quality and there is a nice shop with good quality goods on offer. There is limited seating inside at the moment (COVID related) but outside there are lots of benches. Hopefully in the future they will invest in some sunshades as it can get quite hot here in the summer months.

A lovely find
Feb 2020 • Family
A lovely country park with beautiful walks (wheelchair/push-chair friendly). There are some lovely views and places for spotting wildlife. The visitor centre is welcoming and informative with very interesting displays linked to the fascinating aviation past. We enjoyed bacon sandwiches and hot chocolates at the super little cafe. Plenty of seating outside for those with dogs. Our children loved the play-park too. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Regular visitor - lots to do here!
Mar 2020
I go here regularly for art lessons but people go for all sorts of reasons, including running, walking groups and dog walking. The centre is a great base to meet friends and for a starting and finishing point for all activities. Lots of local information available about the wildlife and history of Hornchurch Airfield. A lovely shop, stocked with lots of interesting things to buy. The staff are welcoming, mostly volunteers. The cafe serves a range of snacks, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, paninis, soups and a good range of teas and coffees. A good seating area inside. Also a large outside area with benches for good weather and people with dogs. A great view across the lake with interesting opportunities for birdwatching. Free parking in a recently enlarged car park too.

Rude cafe staff, expensive cafe, but nice food
Oct 2019 • Family
Lovely setting, nice little park, lovely cafe, food very expensive for what it is... it’s a cafe not a Michelin star restaurant. Staff are older ladies (assuming they volunteer there) and are very rude. Asked for 3 coffees, was not asked if was drinking in or taking away, first coffee was put in a mug and apologised to her that actually was take away and the lady huffed and puffed and gave us a dirty look. They obviously have training to use coffee machine maybe some extra training on how to treat paying customers and smile!

It feels like you are in the country

I love this place, loads of varied walks and an enormous amount of wildlife. The view from the hill, never disappoints. Today the woodpeckers were in their element. Stopped for a gorgeous coffee and cake in the visitor centre and was treated to the blue tits going wild on the feeders while the sparrows, chaffinches and collared doves waited on the crumbs. What a way to spend a day.

Driving past and popped in....
May 2019 • Couples
Often dog walked at the country park but coming in from Berwick across the bridge, knew the centre existed but had never visited. Driving nearby decided to pop in to have a look. First impression, free car park, walked past a very busy well equipped playground to the visitor centre. Lovely well stocked shop and a cafe with amazing views. Had the lightest Victoria sponge I’ve ever tasted and the orange and poppyseed cake was delicious. Left wanting to know much more about the airfield and it’s importance in the wars. Will definitely be back with or without dog , but definitely with little grandchildren

Excellent place for a walk once off the beaten track and the dog walkers.
Apr 2019 • Couples
Pleasant place for a walk though some might consider hilly, bit too many slopes. Plenty of bird life off the beaten track and away from the dog walkers. Some dogs are great and have well trained owners but others are not so beware.

Take binoculars and there is no telling as to what you might spot.

Nice place to sit and enjoy a tea whilst looking over the valley. Just people watch and rest. Toilets are a bonus too. Play area nearby.
