A little treasure of a village,we visited a few weeks ago and managed to get parked immediately close to the Guildhall. We walked up past that particular building to the windmill, slightly hidden and only a 2 minute walk from the main road...sadly it was closed. After a brief look at the Almhouses and a wander around the church we wandered down to... I am very familiar with this village. In the summer there are plenty of activities on offer including the annual Morris Men festival definitely something to see. There church in the village dominates the skyline and is truly spectacular. There is a cobbled lane up to the church and the alms houses make this a quaint little village. There are... More

Thaxted remains largely untouched by modern day living. The Guildhall with its gaol , windmill and the lovely Church provide an insight into country living over many years. The 2 pubs, Parrishes and The Star Inn restaurant provide food and drink to suit all palates and pockets. Famous as the home of Gustav Holst for a period as well as... More

Well worth a visit to see the lovely architecture, the windmill and visit the quaint little shops. Best to visit when there is something going on (which is quite often).

What a super little village this is. Shame about the flight path to Stansted but the buildings, fantastic church and lovely pubs make it a joy to visit

A beautiful village full of history, and doesn't feel commercialised. Lovely day spent on a treasure hunt around thaxted and surrounding villages was both educational and beautiful

Who can fail to be charmed by a quaint covered market place dating back hundreds of years? The charm continues with the dozens of independent shops falling away from this down the steepish hill which makes up the town centre. Adjacent to the market place is a house attributed to famous highwayman Dick Turpin. Explore for yourself the wonderful church... More

We spent the afternoon wandering around Thaxted visiting the windmill, Guildhall, the church and surrounding walks. Had hoped to catch the annual Morris dancing but as we didn't have a timetable, we missed out. However this is a quaint little village, worth a couple of hours walking/exploring and then stop by a pub or tea room

Wonderful church and a very attractive town. It also has a fine windmill and unusual market hall. Pretty side streets.
