First time visiting Epping Forest and it is huge, spread out over a couple of boroughs. We started the High Beach end and generally did a 20K walk. It was lovely being surrounded by nature. Lots of places to sit, chat and eat. Will try and get to other parts of the forest in the near future. Highly recommend.

Epping Forest is a wonderful and beautiful place with lots of different landscapes. We are so fortunate to be able to visit such a lovely place. However, it is shameful as to how some people choose to leave their rubbish behind and spoil the forest. Connaught Water is a beautiful place which is spoilt by cyclists who are not permitted to cycle around the lake, people leaving their dogs off the lead, not picking up the mess their dogs make and a large amount of people feeding the ducks bread which is extremely harmful and can lead to Angel Wings and a very short lifespan which is dreadful. Please don’t feed the ducks bread if you visit and there are alternatives (oats, duck and swan food, sweet corn) because feeding them bread is dangerous and can kill ducks. There are already several Canada Geese goslings in Woodford with Angel Wings which no doubt has been caused by people feeding then bread and even mouldy bread. Wanstead Flats was a lovely place but again has been spoilt by many visitors leaving huge amounts of rubbish especially around the lakes and High Beach is the same. Epping Forest is such a lovely place but we need to look after it. Please be considerate to the visitors who do want to enjoy the forest.
