Try the breakfast!
Mar 2020
I had never been to the Lavender Line before but we called in on Sunday as part of a railway-themed tour of Kent and Sussex. Having got there early, the first train wasn't for a while but we decided to stay for breakfast and it was well worth it. Traditional English, beautifully cooked and reasonably priced. Had a train ride on the immaculately restored Hampshire Unit where I recognised graffiti carved into the seats that was there in my schooldays.
Whilst not really an "all day" attraction like its neighbour the Bluebell, the Lavender Line is well worth a visit, small and friendly. And that breakfast was just sensational...

Day out with the Grandson.

This Heritage Railway captures the atmosphere of the 1950s. The staff are so helpful and enthusiastic. The pub next door has great beer and food and has a welcoming ambiance.

Nostalgic

Lovely old station and steam train. Sadly the line is not very long - it is a shame Beeching closed all these lines. Volunteers are very helpful and friendly.

Pricey but not bad
Oct 2019
Came here for the running day and classic car show. The entry fee £10 each was very pricey for a railway that has about a mile of track! But we had rides on the railbus and on the steam propelled brake van. The car show was ok but it was a bit disappointing. The attitude of the volunteers was greatand everyone was very helpful!

Great Venue
Sep 2019
Yesterday I had a wonderful birthday party at the Lavender Line. The staff did the catering for lunch which was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were extremely helpful and very friendly. My guests were delighted with the venue as it's quite unusual for a party especially as we could ride up and down on the rail bus throughout the afternoon.

Lovely day of old trains
Jun 2019 • Couples
Excellent day out, I loved the trains, we were able to ride on the train, but even if you can't do that, you can still have a lot of fun on the platform, visiting the signal box museum, and the miniature train set which is just adorable, you put a coin in and the trains go around and around. I put a coin in at least three times, I loved it.
The food was also good, I had chips and ketchup and cola, I will return frequently. Loved it.

Lovely Family Day
Mar 2019 • Family
We went there on Mothers Day - our party had 2 children and 2 dogs. We had a lovely time and found the staff very helpful and friendly. Maybe not a full days outing but great fun for the whole family. We will definitely go back and take advantage of the breakfast supplied by the Cafe ! Santas Train also sounds fun !

Great Fun For All The Family
Mar 2019 • Family
We visited on Mother's Day as our 2 year old loves trains and we hadn't been before.

We paid £5 for a return journey each which we thought was good value. The train track is only a mile long so the journey takes around 5-10 minutes. It stops at a train platform for a few minutes and then makes the return trip.

My 5 year old and 2 year old loved it. They hadn't been on a diesel train before so it was nice to try something different.

They also had the miniature railway running which they enjoyed. The money raised goes to a children's charity which is a good thing.

My youngest loved the signal box and pulling all the levers. His Great Great Grandfather was a signal man so it is in his blood!

My 5 year old loved the play area with the slide and swing and they both loved running around. It was nice and quiet so they had the place to themselves.

We took a picnic and ate in the picnic area which was good as the miniature train and the diesel train run close by. It gave the kids something to look at and kept them entertained.

We didn't try the buffet car as we had a picnic but we went in there to get our tickets and the food smelt good. It had paninis, jacket potatoes, breakfasts and cheesy chips etc on the menu which were all reasonably priced. The cafe is dog friendly as well so we will give it a try next time.

Outside the cafe is a little train set with trains for the children to play with. My youngest loved playing with that while we waited for the train to come.

We had a lovely time and wish we had found the Lavender Line sooner as this was our first visit. We will definitely be back again soon.
