Situated near Aldeburgh, in the beautiful coastal region of Suffolk, The Long Shop Museum tells the story of more than 200 years of the town's life and work. In the museum you will find a staggering collection of objects, ranging from full-size steam engines (the Richard Garrett & Sons engineering business made many hundreds of steam engines here) to touching mementos of the lives of the working people of the town.

We visited this museum in the hope that there would be plenty to see and do, unfortunately we felt it didn't live up to our expectations. Not a lot to see and expensive for what it was. Note: no concessions.

It felt overpriced. Lots to see if you're able / of an age where you don't mind reading lots of signs. But for my toddler there wasn't enough to capture his imagination. The narrative of the displays is poor. Without reading the history of the...More

Quite a good museum but rather expensive at £6.50. £4.50 would be more apt. No consessions for OAP. Amazing to think so many people worked there in its hay day

We were in awe of the displays. The staff were very well informed and couldn't do enough to help us. Plenty of puzzles and smells for the children. Well worth half a day out indoors.

Went with my husband and grandson, they enjoyed themselves. steam roller was in steam but only went a few feet. It was interesting to find out some of the female Garret family's history, and the extent of products made at this factory.

Surprisingly rich industrial history of a small Suffolk town. With lots of old fashioned machines it is a good place to visit on a wet day with the children or grandchildren in tow. Intersting social insights into the "model factory" movemetn.
