About
Felixstowe Museum houses 14 galleries displaying the military and social history of this popular seaside resort and outlying area. Even the building is of historical interest as it was once a submarine mining establishment and is possibly the last example of such in the world.

We had a great time visiting the museum on its day of reopening on 30th May. There was lots to see and the covid safe one way system worked really well. The staff and volunteers were so friendly and informative, it was well worth the reasonable £3.00 entry fee. There was a very affordable cafe and we were able to sit outside in the sun shine on the provided picnic benches to enjoy our drinks. Definitely worth a visit.

Wow, thanks for visiting us on our opening day. We're delighted that you felt safe and secure with all our new procedures in place and that you found plenty to see. It's something of an Aladdin's cave isn't it? Thank you for recommend us to other TripAdvisor members. We certainly feel that there's something for (almost) everyone at Felixstowe Museum.

What a hidden gem this small museum is. I remember going there several years ago and thinking it was quite good, but now so much work has obviously gone into making it a tremendous experience, We started by having a very good cup of tea and biscuits outside and then did the tour. There's so much of interest on different subjects. Obviously plenty of military exhibits including a fine collection of model aircraft, but also stuff about paddle steamers, the development of the port and general material on the different eras. We chatted with three volunteers, all of whom were friendly and knowledgeable. We though we'd be spending 20 minutes inbetween birding on the reserve, instead we were an hour and a half. fantastic!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Local volunteers man the museum and will be pleased that you enjoyed your visit. Felixstowe has so much history- as a port; as a seaside resort; and an important military role and we try to reflect all those aspects in the Museum. There is musch to enjoy at the Museum. We hope that we will see you again soon.

The museum is very under rated by people, even some locals do not know it exists. The variety of displays is second to none and during the closed season the volunteer staff go in and plan new attractions for the following season. It is brilliant for children as most of the attractions are touchable. The staff are fantastic and are always willing to help and if they don't know the answer to questions they make sure they find out for the next visit.

Wow, thanks so much for a great review and for recognising the work of our volunteers (without whom there would be no Felixstowe Museum!). You're so right - some locals seem unaware of our existence in spite of all the publicity we try to generate in the local media. Thanks again for your support and please consider voting for us in 2016 Suffolk Museum of the Year as there are less than 3 more weeks of voting to go!

What a hidden gem! Packed full of interesting displays and artefacts - from military to local history. Great display commemorating WW1. Brings back a lot of memories for those who grew up in or visited Felixstowe in the past. Remember Wiseman's shop or St Audrey's at Melton? Lovely little shop area for a very reasonably priced souvenir AND a cup of the best tasting coffee around. No need to go over to the other site - have one here!

Thanks for your 'Brilliant' review. We think we have plenty to offer our visitors and we do our best to make everything very affordable. Thanks too for mentioning the shop; many of our visitors inadvertently pass it by on their way to order coffee and muffins!

Thanks for writing such a positive review. Your kind words cheered up the volunteers on what was a busy day at the museum.

Fabulous museum with excellent staff, everything is labelled and explained. It has one room where the exhibits are changed to a different theme each week. There were preparations for a dinosaur themed childrens' event planned for end of July beginning of August, The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. We did not expect to stay long but were there for two hours. An afternoon well spent.

Thanks so much for putting in a review, and such a lovely one too. We're also a good port of call on a hot day as most of the rooms are cooler than outside. Well done for staying for 2 hours - what stamina! There's so much to see in our 'Aladdin's cave' of a museum; we feel we offer excellent value for money at £2 per adult

Wow, what lovely comments. We're now open with new displays which we've developed over the winter - one of the reasons for being closed although another is that it's very chilly in this old building! Check out our new children's activity area and the exciting trail which will be available throughout August. We look forwad to seeing you again.

Hi. The Museum opens on 17th April for an Easter Egg Hunt but the childrens tickets have now sold out. You could still visit but children would not be able to take part in the egg hunt. We then open for the season on Easter Sunday and Monday. Opening times are 12 noon till 5pm. Please check our website for opening times over the season. . Thank you
