Comprehensive exhibits covering all aspects of Sheringham's history. How did they get three lifeboats in there?

Sheringham Museum
Jan 2020
The museum in Sheringham is a must to visit. The volunteers who run it are extremely helpful and informative. The museum itself is absolutely wonderful with its boats, gansey collection and yearly exhibitions.

Hi 176janw, thank you so much for your review. We wouldn't be where we are without our hard-working volunteers. The museum opens for the season on March 21st- not long to go now!

Varied museum appealing to all ages
Oct 2019
This museum has a very good variety of exhibits, and has many "hands on" displays and activities to spark children's interest. I particularly liked the lifeboats.
All the displays and exhibits are really well thought out. The viewing tower gives a spectacular 360 degree view of Sheringham. Really worthwhile visit and great for all ages. Accessibility is excellent with ramps, lifts and disabled toilets.

Thanks so much, we're really pleased to hear you had a good time during your visit. Our trails and quizzes always go down well with children, and the toddlers love to borrow our mini buckets of toys while they go round the museum. Our volunteers on the front desk can always hear families trying to out-do each other on the electricity generating winder in the windfarm room! Over the winter, during our closed season we have lots going on so we'll be cleaning, tweaking, and improving our displays ready for the 2020 season- you can get some behind-the-scenes glimpses through our Facebook page. 2020 will mark our 10 Year Anniversary of the museum moving into the Mo on the seafront. Time flies!

We visited the "Mo' almost by accident as my wife noticed there was an exhibition of folk art on display and so we went in and found the whole museum excellent. Beautifully set out with very friendly staff, it told how the town changed from a sleepy coastal
fishing community to catering for tourists with the coming of the railway in the 1880s
Also what we found fascinating was the artists, writers, photographers and musicians who either visited Sheringham over the years or made the place their home. Whilst you are there do climb up to the viewing tower and I also found the offshore wind farm information very interesting. A must visit for both young and old and nearly forgot we had a chat with their resident artist which made the icing on the cake for us. Brilliant!

We've had lots of lovely feedback about our Folkart exhibition, I hope your wife enjoyed it. Thanks so much for your review and for visiting us. I'm glad meeting Colin Seal made your day! The museum is now closed to the public for the winter but there will be lots going on behind the scenes ready for next year. Perhaps we'll see you then!

A very enjoyable experience
Oct 2019
I visited (with a friend) Sheringham Museum, last Thursday (October 10th) afternoon, we were at the Museum, for about an hour and a half, there were many highlights at the Museum, including Lifeboats, old fishing boats, a model of RMS Titanic, the display of Shops of Shannock Street, the Olive Edis gallery (I remember seeing an exhibition about Olive, at Cromer Museum), a Rocking Horse and old clothes, there were lots of interesting old photographs, at the Museum, I enjoyed reading about John Craske, and seeing some of his work, there was a lot of interesting information to read, about Sheringham (history and people), we enjoyed the sights, from the viewing tower, the staff were very friendly and helpful, I bought some nice items, in the Museum Shop, was my second visit to Sheringham Museum, the last time being May 25th 2015, the same day that Norwich City played Middlesbrough, in the Football League Championship play-off Final, recommended for anyone interested in history.

Magnificent Mo (Sheringham Museum)
Oct 2019 • Couples
On a rainy Sunday we ventured into the Magnificent Mo ( Sheringham museum)

An array of rnli exhibits & more! Interactive areas including Olive Edis's photographs .plus informative area on wind generation . Would be good to have a short video clip of the lifeboats in action to capture the risk at sea .

Lots to see and learn
Oct 2019
Welcomed by the volunteer staff keen to make your visit enjoyable. Charming old reconstructed shops, interesting display of wind turbine power on a level where you can see a panoramic view of the wind turbines off the coast. Several lifeboats from different eras making you realise what a hard and dangerous job the lifeboat volunteers had. Very intriguing exhibition of the work of Olive Edis pioneering Norfolk photographer and her unforgettable portraits of old fishermen their eyes shining from their gnarled faces.
Climb up to the viewing platform for a 360 degree view of coast and country and finally choose your souvenir from the well-stocked,reasonably -priced shop.
This museum is very well worth a visit.

very interesting visit
Sep 2019
First time here, really enjoyed it. The folk art exhibition was really good. One of our party was in a wheelchair and the staff was very helpful. In fact we met one of the volunteers in a nearby street who was not actually going to the museum asked if we wanted him to go inside to open the door at the top of the hill to save us going down the steep hill. We said no but still but took us to near the entrance.

The reception staff were very friendly as was all the volunteers we met. Access in the museum was great. The lifts were a great help. The contents inside the museum were great. I found the interactive display especially the old photos were very interesting. Well worth the money. You will find a lot of interesting displays.

Excellent Museum
Sep 2019 • Couples
The staff were warm, friendly, clearly loved the area and the museum and had a great knowledge of both. The museum had many diverse features such as the wind farm section, the folk art exhibition, where we had a lovely chat with a lady completing a giant tapestry of the sea front and the piece de resistance was the amazing lifeboats and their incredible history. Couldn't recommend it highly enough and at £4.50 is ridiculously inexpensive. Highly recommended.

Wow, thank you Rob, what an enthusiastic review, I'm so pleased you found your visit rewarding. Our volunteer textile team will be working on the panoramic embroidery throughout the winter...and over the next couple of years! I'm sure we'll be giving occasional updates on its progress on our Facebook page etc, so do look out for it.
