Dog walking

Nice place for a dog walk, we walked the orange tack from the main visitor centre car park, 4.5 miles I think, easy walking, well naked, very pleasant couple of hours. Stoped at... read more

Unhelpful staff studiously ignored my wife in information office when enquiringly about Stick Man trail. Our first encounter with a rude local on this holiday. Lovely location, with river for kids to paddle in and woodland trail with gruffalo characters. Kids enjoyed the play equipment, but it was very slippery and the surroundings were very boggy and muddy. Shouldn't think... More

Nice place for a dog walk, we walked the orange tack from the main visitor centre car park, 4.5 miles I think, easy walking, well naked, very pleasant couple of hours. Stoped at the cafe for a sandwich and coffee, and the staff were very helpful. Very clean toilet facilities. We have run out of time on our holiday, otherwise... More

We've visited hamsterley forest for years (we were members) but haven't been for a few months. The new childrens play areas are great, everything's been updated which is also great. But the problem i have is, we are walkers with a well behaved dog. I totally agree that dogs should be on a lead when walking near the childrens play... More

My local MBT haunt, come here to shred the trails 8-10 times a month. The trails are some of the best I know, though not by far the hardest. The black trail isn't as hard as most red trails and the red trail are on par with most other blue traisl. The blue route at Hamsterley isn't even worth calling... More

Came here for a walk out with partner and little boy (4months). Didn't know what to expect as i had heard mixed reviews. Not ideal with little babies and a pushchair but the views are lovely. We decided to walk up the orange trail which was a mistake with pushchair but we enjoyed the walk and had a laugh getting... More

We live locally and visit the forest often to let the kids play or to go biking. Facilities for kids and biking are developing all the time with lots of new stuff springing up. However, make sure you bring a picnic. The café has just been 'renovated' but unfortunately they didn't do anything about the people running it. The food... More

We went on a Saturday during the school holidays and there were quite a lot of cars in the car parks but on the walks themselves it was wonderfully peaceful. Great place for those who like to ride bikes.

There is lots of walking for various levels of ability and serious and not so serious cycling too. The café is excellent if you have a moment to wait to be served and if you are happy with 'bacon melts', soup, jacket potatoes etc. It also offers free wifi which is handy as there is NO MOBILE COVERAGE in the... A wonderful day out in the great outdoors for the family. Fantastic play areas, tunnels and den building. Lovely children's trails and a nice, shallow river to paddle in. There is a cafe and a cycle hire shop which we plan to use on our next visit. I would highly recommend this gorgeous place!
