The collection of historical maps concerning the discovery of Spitsbergen is of great interest. In particular the maps showing the original names (mainly Dutch and English) before many of the names were 'Norwegianised'. Gilesland gets a mention.

We tried to pop in before our flight home but the venue does not open before 11.00 which is annoying. It looked good from the outside but will never know

This shop houses the craft shop which offers pieces of local artists and the gallery. We went to the site because of the handcrafts, we did not entered the gallery. There are lots of pieces to see, and lots of them call your attention.

Given it's location this gallery had a surprisingly large collection. I'm not rating it higher because the collection did not really appeal to me that much personally. Your experience may differ.

A delightful gallery and full of beautiful local items. This is my second visit to Svalbard and always buy my gifts here - they are works of art.

This building is shared between the gallery and the craft shop. The crafts were excellent and very tempting, the gallery charges extra and is not really worth it.
