We booked the 6-hr dogsled to ice cave tour which was an amazing experience. Our guide (I do not remember his name) picked us up at our hotel and took us to the office to get suited up in warm clothes. Then we were on our way to the dog yard.

After a brief explanation of riding a sled and harnessing the dogs, we were put to work! Which was actually quite fun. We got to fetch our 6 dogs and get them harnessed today the sled. The dogs were so excited and it was fun to bond with them.

The owner accompanied us (also forgot his name) and he truly cares for these dogs. They are very well loved and taken care of.

It was a two hour trek to the ice cave and you get to do the mushing on your own sled. My wife mushed and I was a passenger on the way there. Then we switched for the ride back. It was so peaceful and nice once we got outside Svalbard and away from other people and snowmobiles. Then we were truly alone in the arctic.

The owner led us into an ice cave inside a glacier and was very informative on the history and facts of glaciers. This was an incredible experience. Words and pictures can not describe it! So beautiful.

After some snacks and hot toddies and soup (dogs got reindeer snacks!), we hooked the dogs back up to the sled for the ride home. You truly feel small in the middle of this vast arctic tundra. Wonderful ride home by moonlight. After getting to the yard, we gave the dogs lots and lots of cuddles and returned them for their well deserved dinner.

If you love dogs and want to experience dog sledding, book with Svalbard Huskies. These guys are awesome!!! So much fun and the highlight of our arctic adventure.

What an experience! Audun is such a great guy and his beloved dogs are his over 100 children. You can feel the the passion for each other and the whole day at the dogyard is so much more than only being driven by a couple of animals.
I was so lucky to get these impressions, the daily work with these friendly animals in a fantastic landscape and feeling the freedom in the nature.
The dogs are so well trained and such intent, intelligent and beautiful creatures. Felt in love with them from the first moment. You never have to be scary. And I learned from Audun so much about his dogs and his buisness but even more about his way of living!
I highly recommend this company, because for city-living office-working 9to5 people like me, it is a once in a livetime experience with these wonderful dogs in these great nature. Matthias

Three generations, ten people and a super guide set our on 5 + 1 sledges and 30 + 6 dogs (guide equipment included). In complete silence we had a wonderful experience that will never be forgotten. And we came very close to the dogs since preparations and clearance after the tour are nice additions. We loved it all.

This trip to Longyearbyen was mid of December 2020. The absolute top of this trip was the dog sledding. Into the polar night behind 14 dogs and with Audun as the perfect guide. It was early afternoon, but in December it is dark all day. After a short while when the eys adap to the darkness it is fatastic to see the suraunding mountans. It was fantastic, smooth and quiet. Only the sound of the sled over the snow. And great to see how happy the dogs are when they are running in front.
The sledding tour was 2 hours and was about 15 km up a valley between great mountans, and the same way back.
Before and after it was much time to play with the dogs and puppyes. All the dogs are happy to play and try to get attention.
A great thank to Audun as the perfect guide, and also Mia who helped with the dogs.
Will absolute come back.

A well organised and informative drive to the base get kitted up, then you meet the dogs, well cared for and very affectionate but strong working dogs, this is their life and they are strong and need handling so if you are nervy around dogs or not robust I wouldn't recommend. The care and well being of the dogs is paramount to the owners, they wouldn't do what they do if they were badly treated. The experience involves you getting the dogs harnessed and ready to run, then off you go and stopping them once they start is hard work, I'm still aching and it is 5 days later! But the sound of silence and the beauty of the dark sky once you run is amazing, the trip out is split into 2 with driver and passenger swapping halfway. You then return and unclip the dogs and return them to their homes, and then have a warm drink. A real once in a lifetime experience and you learn masses, thank you!

Hey Kate, Thanks for your nice review of the experience you had--we're happy to hear that you learned a lot and got to work hard with the dogs! I agree that the sudden silence and peace of the landscape once you start driving is one of the most magical moments of dogsledding. ;) -Kelsey

Very personal service, we had a small group only 4 of us, probably as it was the last group of the day, when it was getting dark. We were shown the sleigh, then we had to fetch our own dogs. Line them up ourselves and then hop on and ride. The full package! It feels very peaceful and our dogs weren’t lazy! Great fun

We had a great time with the Svalbard Husky team at Easter 2021. We had booked a one day trip but because of the challenging weather with a strong wind this trip was cancelled. However, we were able to join a half day trip instead. The guides were very dedicated to our safety and comfort during the trip and were checking very often if we were not freezing. And it went fine! This was a very good experience and we hope we will be able to come back for a longer trip another time. The dogs are very well treated and are amazingly cuddly!

Svalbard Husky is run by a lovely, friendly guy ( who speaks excellent English) and his wife who is a vet. Great instruction was given on meeting your doggy team, harnessing them up to your sledge and driving. The dogs are very friendly and adorable. The trip itself felt very safe and not too fast. Suitable for most ages, I would say. Extra clothing is provided and it is very necessary as it gets incredibly cold when either driving or sitting in the sledge as a passenger in winter.

We had booked the Polar Night dogsledding in hopes of seeing Northern Lights. While the weather didn't cooperate with us, dog sledding in the dark in an experience in its own right. After being picked up we're driven to the kennels to be dressed for the weather and to receive headlamps for safer travels. We're introduced to the dogs and began the process of harnessing them. There was some confusion in the instruction process. Svalbard Husky had recently had 3 guides quit and that they were short staffed as a result which was adding to the stress of the remaining guides. Our guide had only 3 months of experience at this point so some of the instructions were not clear. The dogs looked well looked after and worked 1 day then had the next day off. The facilities were well organized and new within the last year or so. While some may think with the tour being scheduled for 4 hours, that they'll will be on sleds for that length but the time includes pick-up, introduction of the dogs, prepping the dogs then leaving and reversing that on the way back. In total we're on the sleds for about 2 hours out of the four, so something to keep in mind if people are looking for a longer time out on the sleds.

We had a great time with the team at Svalbard Husky. The beautiful husky dogs were so happy and well cared for and the whole place was clean and tidy and it was a pleasure to wonder amongst the dogs. The sledding was a great experience and the dogs seemed to really enjoy running along in the snow. It was also good to get involved in harnessing up the huskies and getting them ready for the sledding. Our guide was great and knowledgeable as well and she let us meet the puppies too which was a bonus. Thank you Svalbard Husky for a memorable day run by an efficient and competent team.
