Met by a lovely man who was really helpful and gas funny. He warmed us with heaters and fed us great tasty food. 100% would recommended fantastic experience.

We had the most gorgeous lunch here last week topped off with an incredible view of the cove and the beautiful blue sea. Delicious chowder, the best fish and chips I've had in years and chicken wings as good as Elephant and Castle, in fact better. The service was warm, personal and cheery, despite them being rushed off their feet as it was a very sunny day. Couldn't recommend this place more highly. Will definitely return.

So as your man below me, I've come here all my life! To read a review as his which single mindedly trys it's best, but fails, to hurt a small but very efficient business such as the delightful food in this place, is extremely hurtful! This is now a full on seafood/steak restaurant of the highest standard you'll get around the area. The chef, Maria and her team, absolutely nail it, evening after evening.
Aside from the food, once you actually take ownership of your own kids and be accountable for them (!!!!) the staff liferally cannot do enough to keep them entertained. Adding to the delicious desserts for the children, Ray is always quick on hand with the FREE chocolate bars to ensure the, family, calmness is maintained until we, the adults have been fed and watered, sufficiently!
Regarding, Alans comment about not being able to have a drink outside, that is 110%, tripe. The decked area, is clearly prime location for a lovely romantic/family meal and is indeed reserved, however the the lovely long teak, high stooled, table just outside the front door, is a quiet pint paradise! As are the many, umbrella'd, tables literally on the beach!
This is not 20 years ago! It is not a caravan club like we truly all love. What it is, is an absolute gem for anyone to enjoy! Marias takeaway pizzas were absolutely amazing but due to her serious kitchen skills and not enough room to keep them going, they've sadly died away but I'd happily sign Alans petition, to get them back!
In finishing, Ronald McDonald once gave me cold chicken nuggets, but I still visit regularly!

Had a family meal here this evening. No social distancing in restaurant, none of the staff wore masks or gloves. No hand sanitiser on way in or out. It was not obvious that we have a pandemic in the country apart from a covid sign taped up on way in.

Took a very long time to get served. Waitresses were not friendly. Food was ok. We tipped the waitresses anyway and then realized they never asked us if we wanted Euro or US Dollar for our bill. They automatically converted it to US Dollar with their conversion rate (which always rips off the customer). When we brought it to their attention, they said they couldn’t change it.
I would definitely not recommend this place!

Six of us came here for a bit of food on a Saturday. We got great seats outside but were told food isn't served outside.
Fair enough.
We went inside and got food which was nice, but we were told we had to be gone within an hour because the seats were reserved. We were gone after about 30 mins but felt the staff were standing over us the whole time.
We went back outside after our food.
Place is fab, food is grand. I didn't see one member of staff smiling. Such an unhappy group working here. Have been coming to Caherdaniel for a good few years, a few years ago the place didn't look as nice, but was a lot more welcoming. The 'new' bar looks great but is very cold and not at all welcoming.

I visit Derrynane(Caherdaniel) a few times a year. It's my favourite place in the world. The beach at O'Carrols Cove is great, especially with kids. Nice & sheltered etc. The beach bar is the perfect location. But, it's a beach bar and the first rule of this beach bar is that you cannot leave ANY trace of the beach nearby. So, no bare feet, swim suits, etc. Basically, they'd prefer you in a three piece suit.
Next rule of this beach bar is that they seem to hate kids. To be fair, kids are hell. They like to run around & have fun. It's awful. Happy kids are so off putting.
Next rule of this beach bar, you MAY NOT have a drink outside....unless you are ordering food, because, god forbid anyone would like just a drink while admiring the view.
At best, the food is good (& quite expensive). The owners rely on seasonal business & the passing tour busses on the Ring of Kerry. They don't want anything to do with the many many potential (& past) customers from the nearby (<20m) camp site. They won't sell them food to take away anymore, and only they know why. Sell it to them at the same price with fewer overheads (i.e. Takeaway pizza must surely be a goldmine, along with a few chips etc).
Yes, busses stop a lot. And, the bus passengers are on a once in a lifetime trip to Ireland & would relish spending money in a place like this. They may leave happy, but they will probably never return. However, some of the locals would probably call in regularly & spend more money, more often if the owners didn't impose all of these ridiculous non-sensical rules that go against everything a beach bar should be.

We went to the restaurant for lunch, when we arrived the restaurant was busy so we were put in the bar area. I asked to be put into the front area as it was very cold in the bar. We waited and four tables became free, we were assured one of them would be cleaned for us and we waited and waited but we were not given a table. I ate my very bland and overpriced open ham and cheese sandwich in the cold bar. Ironically we were seated right next to all the award plaques telling us what a wonderful restaurant this was. I felt like I had a major part in "The emperors new clothes"
There is no doubt but the area is beautiful but I left feeling invisible and very much overcharged for a poor experience..

Terrible experience with extremely rude staff especially the man in charge! Never have I ever came across such ignorance in my life time, refused drinks for no reason etc. Unfortunate as it’s in such a great location but I will never return nor advise anyone to return. Bring some food and drinks and relax on the beach instead ! Really unimpressed, it is a let down to the friendly Irish representation that Ireland is famous for. The focus is clearly on well off tourists and couldn’t care less about what the average person thinks of his establishment.

Thank you for your comments.
You must be mistaken for another establishment or maybe you cannot rightly remember your visit to O'Carrolls Cove.
I do recall a group recently and i can only presume you are a part of that group that was asked to leave due to misbehaviour on out deck area.
You will recall the incident and you will recall that some of your group were quite embarrassed with the bad behaviour of other members of the group.
Thank you again.
