The monastery is well worth a visit. It's like a little village with individual houses, a church, some chapels and windy little streets. Make sure you dress appropriately - long trousers for men, over the knee skirt or long trousers for women, no sleeveless tops etc. We witnessed a Greek man in 3/4-length trousers being shouted at and removed from the premises. He put up a fight but the nuns wouldn't budge - quite funny actually. Maybe this is now their marketing ploy so folk just come to see 'the show' :-) I don't quite understand why so many people take such issue with the dress code - religious rules in general are often illogical but just respect them if you want to visit a place - simples. Just be aware that there is no official car park and you need to navigate big coaches, other cars and pedestrians. …

Very holy and picturesque place..Here was the place that Saint Pelagia lived and saw the vision with our Holy Mary!

A lovely peaceful place with a gorgeous view. In addition there is a small compound with deer that they monastery takes care of.

We went back a second time after being refused entry as I wasn’t wearing “pantaloons”. Well worth it. It’s a walled whitewashed village of nuns’ cottages surrounding a cluster of churches. Beautiful views across the island, charming flower shrouded terraces. All the churches were open when we visited. Which may be because 6 coach loads of visitors turned up just afterwards.…
