Aquaworld - Crete's first Aquarium - opened in Hersonissos in 1995 - near Bus Stop 20. It features local sea life and reptiles from Crete and from all around the world. Most of the animals are rescued or are unwanted pets which have found a new home at Aquaworld. Our philosophy is simple - bring people and animals closer together and, inevitably, people will begin to respect and care more about the animals!

This is a small but friendly place with various animals as well as being a charity and rehabilitation centre A great place to visit if you want an hour away from the beach

Good place to go to pass an hour or 2. Passionate people running the aquarium and doing a valuable job in saving wildlife.

We read about this on here and thought we would give it a go, worth the money €6 for adult and €4 kids. The time we went was 10ish and they was feeding the reptiles. Got to interact with them, breaks up from the sunbathing. Give it a go.

Definitely worth a look, there is a small fairly priced entrance fee. We walked from our hotel (Michalis Apartments) approx 12 streets along on the main high street. I only mention the distance because when I Googled to see the location it said we were two streets away 😃 It was a very easy walk no problem at all. My... More

We had a lovely time here. €6 per adult and €4 for children. The centre was quite small but the plus was you were close to the animals and could hold and touch them including a snake! Well worth a visit as all animals are rescue animals so money worth spending. They can also help you transport and Greek stray... More

Small door on a side street in Hersonissos takes us to a basic rooms with the most AMAZING creatures. The friendly staff introduced us to lizards, snakes, tortoises and a chameleon as well as a variety of fish and an octopus. Such a wonderful place we all enjoyed it. Fed the tortoise, held the python and more... A must for... More

We visited at 10am when the inhabitants were being fed - great little rescue centre - where the kids could get hands on with lizards, turtles and snakes - the kids loved it and so did the adults. Fish and octopus too. Great to read about the successful rescues and those that are looked after at the centre as they... More

Well worth a couple of hours out of the sun to support this excellent place. We got to hold and learn about all the snake and reptiles they have there. The staff are always smiling and clearly enjoy what they do. Might have to go again before we leave.
