Narendra Sarovara, a holy lake, situated at northeast of Jagannatha’s temple. The Sarovara (lake) has a calm atmosphere, it is a fairly large lake with clean water and houses temples inside the lake. There is pathway to visit the main temple inside the lake. However, when we visited in Dec’21, the visitors were not allowed inside the main temple, which was disheartening for us. We visited the pathways and had a nice view of temple, lake and surroundings, one can spot fishes in the lake and can even feed them.

Like most of the temples the tanks are also not maintained in Puri. This the tank where the Lord Jagannath once a year during summer season takes a boat ride and give darshan to the devotees.

Sarovar means a tank or a big pond. That exactly defines this place which has a religious background. In the months of May and June, during oppressive heat in the coastal town of Puri in hot Indian Summer, the presiding deities of Puri Lord Jagannath Temple, come to this lake in a decorated palanquin and then board a decorated boat and takes a few rounds on the serene and breezy water of this water body just to cool off.
This is located just beside Jatiya Baba ashram in Puri,a religious place which attracts thousands of devotees every after noon.
Narendra Sarovar is the correct name and NOT Narendra Tank, and this place is famous for Chandan Yatra every year

If you are a religious person and love of mythological history, then you must go there. A very clean lake with its own story. Also, you can visit the two love, mesmerising, clean and the wonder ashram of Sadguru Bijoy Krishna Goswami (popularly called Jatiya Baba) and also of his disciple Kuladananda Brahmachari which is just adjacent to Narendra Sarobar.

Narendra Tank is one of the largest tanks in Odisha and is believed to have been built during the 15th century. This tank is considered holy and has a lot of small and big temples surrounding it. There is an island in the middle of the lake with a small temple called Chandana Mandapa .
Thus Narendra tank is one of the most sacred and pious tanks of Orissa where the lord Jaganatha has his sacred bath. Surrounded with a number of small and large temples this is one of the most sacred tanks which is located at a distance of only 2 kms from the temple of Lord Jaganatha. This benefits the visitors who can get easy access to the lake.
The massive structure of Narendra tank is mainly known for the Chandana Yatra which is also known as Chandana Pushkarini. During this festival all the big and small deities are taken out of their temples and floated in the pious water of this lake. The deities are applied withy chandana paste and then washed with the sacred water of this tank. This ritual is organized in the Baishak month of Hindu calendar - the month which marks the beginning of scotching summer. Under this ritual Lord Jaganatha is escorted to this lake once in a year where he is supposed to have his bath once in the year.

A good sight of the deities journeying the lake is soothing to see. Boating is there but only for the deities and not for tourists. Stones near the lake are very slippery and it is dangerous for kids. The tank is dirth and filthy though.

The entry fee of Rs 5 for each person is collected. The tank is full of dirt and algae and it has to be cleaned. The beautifully decorated idols of Jagannath, Subadra and Balabhadra are placed in the temple, which is located in the middle of the tank. The idols of five pandava brothers are located in the small shrine in the temple. Must visit on a trip to puri

There are four big Sarovars (tanks) in Puri. One is called Narendra Sarovar. A large beautiful lake, it was built in the 15th century by a royal dignitary called Narendra Dev.
During the Chandana Yatra (sandalwood festival) of Jagannath temple lasting three weeks, replicas of the images of the deities are taken round the tank in elegantly decorated and illuminated boats twice daily. The ceremonies are witnessed by large gatherings of people.
It is a nice place to visit and have a look, even on days when there is no festivity.
