Small temple within the Jagannath temple complex
Oct 2018 • Solo
There would be no photographs possible, as much as I would like to upload one for the benefit of fellow travelers - at least till the time no photography rules stand within the Jagannath Temple Complex. Perhaps the policemen guarding the temple from inside can upload one - only they are allowed their smartphone, I saw a couple of them using them.

This temple is situated very near to the West side exit of the Jagannath Temple. This Ganesha is also known as the following:
1. Tantric Ganesha
2. Uchista Ganesha
3. Bhanda Ganesha
4. Kamada Ganesha
The legend is as follows:
This legend is immortalized in the Kanchi-Kaveri Upakhyan
King Purushottama Deva (reign: 1466-97 AD) of the Gajapati Kingdom of Orisssa invaded King Narasimha Raya II of the Saluva Dynasty of the Viajayanagara Empire. This war was started because of the slight made by the king Narasimha. The legend goes by - King Purushottama Deva was defeated in the war in the first attempt. He came back as a broken man and prayed to lord Jagannatha. According to the legend, Lord Jagannatha promised support and fought in the second part of the war along with his brother Balabhadra. Lord Ganesha was fighting also in the war on behalf of the ruler of Kanchi King Narasimha Raya. When Lord Jagannatha assumed the form of a big cat, Lord Ganesha's Rat fled. Lord Ganesha realized that Lord Jagannatha was fighting on behalf of Kind Purushottama. He apologized to lord Jagannatha and withdrew from war. This resulted in the victory of King Purushottama, and he captured King Narasimha Raya II and his daughter Padmavati (also known as Rupambika). He then ordered Padmavati to be married off to a perfect sweeper. Gajapati kings were known as Routa or Routacharyas - which means servant of Lord Jagannatha. On he occasion of the next Ratha Yatra, when King Purushottama was sweeping the chariot of lord Jagannath, the clever minister declared him to be perfect sweeper and thus Padmavati was married to king Purushottama. Idol of Kanchi Ganesha was brought from the Vijayanagara to Puri and was established here.

The specialty of the idol is a woman sitting on Ganesha's left thigh, and the trunk of the Ganesha is near the vulvar region of the woman. Vulva(Yoni) is a Tantric Symbol of origin and creation. Hence, Tantric Ganesha

Kanchi Ganesha Shrine located inside Puri Jagannath temple complex
Dec 2017 • Family
During our Year end to Odisha on Dec'17, got to visit Kanchi Ganesha temple situated inside Puri Jagannath Mandir complex. As per legends this idol was gifted by King of Kanchi. The deity in the form of 'Uchhista Ganapati' is seen very rarely in the temples.

Kanchi Ganesha Temple is just behind the main Jagannath Temple and has an iron fence to protect from monkeys. There is an idol of 'Mooshika' (mouse), the official transporter of the Lord in front of the temple which devotees touch to fulfill their wishes. It is strange that the body of the 'Mooshika' is still prickly even after it has been touched by so many devotees.

Offered our Pranams to Ganesha. Jai Shri Ganesha !!
