Other than religious value, not a very sightly or peaceful place. Lots of religious travellers with crowded market place around the temples. But the phenomenon of hot water springs in which even rice cooks, is mind boggling. The parvati valley view along the manikaran road is scenic and beautiful.

We had been to Manikaran from Manali. It almost takes a day of yours to go and come back to Manali. So, unless you have ample time, it is not a very good idea to spend a day for it. Also, if you are taking bath at the hot springs, please be careful. Don't dip in the water for a long time. We had gone in January when the outside temperature was aroud2degrees and the hot water inside the bath pool is almost boiling temp. My husband, my son and his friends bathed in this. And the boys said that they felt their heart rate rapidly increasing, may be due to the temp. change. My husband got a chakkar and fell down after taking bath for quite some time. SO, even if you dip in it, don't be there for a long time. NOt much hotels on the way.

It was amazing to see the hot water pond. However, I did not liked that the local people were boiling eggs and potatoes in it which is against the rituals since it is Hindu pilgrims

The temple is a small place, it ends before it begins. Ladies and Gents bathing area are seperate, but top view is open.
All the local women come to wash their clothes, children and have their daily bath, so there is no room for tourist. The sight is horrible. The steps are slippery because of all the soap and I had a major fall and injured my back. Not worth going, very dissappointing.

Manikaran in himachal, a place where u come across the hot springs. Nothing extraordinary except the fact that you have a temple as well as a gurudwara there. You can take a bath in the hot water and there is a separate place for women to bath as well. The place is a 2.5 hr ride from manali.. Approx 86 kms. The road is bumpy and broken at many places, but offers some very beautiful views of the valley. Would recommend a trip only if you are on a long vacation and have a lot of free time.
A note of caution for food, do not be dependent on any hotel near manikaran, they may look good but quality is quite poor.

we drove down to Manikaran from katrain and it took about 2 and half hours each way. It was pouring that day , but the drive was beautiful. in certain parts the road is not in good shape. we stopped for lunch at Sanjha Chulha - great view and food - though on the expensive side. on reaching manikaran we found it crowded and dirty. Irresponsible tourists throw plastic bottles in the river flowing next to gurudwara. the area is full of small shops adding to the crowd. yes, the hot springs are interesting. The area is so dirty that it puts you off.

This is one of the few hot water springs left in Himalayas. On the bank is river, hot water has been accumulated in small ponds.
Situated along Manikaran gurudwara, one can also take bath in hot spring water.

You may be able to cover Manikaran, Manali but if you want to cover Rohtang, it would be taking one more day. As it is, Kullu - Manali travel time is close to 2 hours. Manikaran is in the opposite side of Rohtang.
You may be able to see few things in one day.
What are the timings to visit for the hot water springs in manikaran?
