The vastnessof this zoo is terrific. They have a large collectionof animals spread in the huge n sprawling complex. If they could come up with few eating options and some safari like thing to explore the zoo it would be awesome

Reached at 10am by Rapido. Best way to get around Guwahati. Traffic jams by the dozen but because I was on Rapido bike I didnt get caught in the jams. Assam Zoo was a huge surprise. Cheap ticket. Rs 33/- Well laid out. Animals looked well fed but bored. Also, they had animals I have never seen. Rhinos Hippos White wallabies Baby giraffe. Indian kids need to learn if they shout and scream and run, animals hide in their cages and we cant see them. Went around the zoo by golf cart. It cost Rs 50 but it saved time. When I finished seeing the animals I bought a teeshirt from the zoo gift shop. Very reasonable prices. Awesome experience. When I exited, it was 11.30 am and people/schoolkids were entering the zoo. Too noisy.

The zoo isn't the smallest, but like almost everything here, lower your expectations. Let's start from the ticket queue, there are two queues, men and women, things from other times. When you arrive at the ticket office there is a sign that says they don't accept cash, for a country where you only pay with cash or smartphone (if you're Indian) and with increased rates for tourists here you have to hope that someone will pay for you. However, the ticket for tourists is very cheap, around 104 rupees (possibly to add supplements for cameras), but the service is not of quality: although it is called a botanical garden (Assam State Zoo-cum Botanical Garden) it is full of rusty and dilapidated cages , there is only one bar before the entrance and the bathrooms inside are paid, some animals on the map did not exist (white tiger for example). Without children the visit does not last more than an hour and a half (maximum).

Though the zoo was not very large yet it had quite a few varieties of flora and fauna. We liked to watch the animals quite a few of them having a natural home and not being put in cages. It also has an aviary and snake house which are worth visiting. The baboons with their activities will make you laugh a lot. However as we went there on a scorching day we found most of the animals inside their caves or sleeping. A leopard which was a little aggressive due to the heat appeared to me to be the best. If you are an animal lover you should never miss a trip to this.

My kid wanted to see animals at this zoo which is located on zoo road.

I guess due to paucity of funds, the state authorities have not been able to maintain the place properly.

It actually resembles a ram shackled animal prison where even the animals are not well looked after. Rather strange!

This place is more of a "suitable" area for the city's love couples who find peace in the nooks and corners of the zoo for a little canoodling!

The Assam state zoo is situated in the heart of the city. Parking facility is available on payment basis. Outside food items is not allowed inside the Zoo. Few of the areas are very well maintained, thanks to topography of the zoo.
