One of Delaware's best kept secrets! Great opportunity to experience farm life for those unable to otherwise. With more and more sub divisions on what previously farm land, not as many people of any age has an opportunity to experience farm animals, etc.

Stratford Ecological Center is located just west of hwys 23 and 315. In fact the east edge of the property reaches to hwy 23. The easiest way to get there is to take 315 south and then make an immediate left on Bunty Station road, and then turn right on liberty road after about a mile and a half. Stratford has a signed entry gate on a winding dirt lane. The road takes you through the Stratford Woods State Nature Preserve (run by the Center) and eventually ends at the farm and parking lot. A sign directs you into the visitor center where you pay your fee ($6 for a family) and pick up a laminated map you return when you leave. You may alos purchase goods produced on the farm including organic eggs, cheese, and honey. We saw the four little pigs and all the other animals in the main barn then hit the trails. It was very secluded and enjoyable, although near the old well people were target shooting on private property on the other side of the creek which was a little disconcerting,to see and hear while walking in the woods in the middle of a nature preserve. That's not an issue if you stay on the Sugar Shack trail or take the swamp trail on the north side of the entrance road

Great place to explore, hike, interact with some animals. The staff is great and the land is beautiful. There is a little old cemetery you can take a small hike to.

Stratford is a non-profit educational organic farm and nature preserve, very welcoming spot to educate school kids and the public and showcase the wonders of the outdoors. They have tours, classes, fairs, many invitations to come enjoy what they care for, including volunteer opportunities. Animals, gardens, bees, trail in the woods, historic cemetery. Farm market, including beef, lamb, goat and pork, and honey. Coming to tour the property, we spent several hours tramping around the farm, the trail and the cemetery.

We came here for my daughter's school field trip. Nice small working farm. They learned a lot. My daughter was very interested to see how people live on a small farm.

I am a photographer and Stratford Eco Center is Heaven.
I have been in every season and as much as I dislike snow, there is nothing more beautiful than watching snow fall quietly among the trees at Stratford. It is something from a Robert Frost poem.
In the Spring and Summer months it is an amazing place !
The staff love their jobs and it shows !
They are knowledgeable and take the time to show visitors some of the wildlife in the area, they even have a Red-tailed Hawk that is an often seen resident there !
After expressing my desire to photograph birds I was ushered to the back of the main building, where to my delight, I was able to capture Red Headed Woodpeckers and some other birds that I had not had the chance to photograph before.
And, again, the staff was amazing and told me so much about the area and the wildlife at the eco center that I had to return with a journal to take notes!
I am very impressed with the lengths Stratford takes to preserve the area for the wildlife there. And the plants and trees where they live.
There is a loving respect that the staff shows for the eco center that warms the heart and gives hope that while other eco centers have failed in their preservation endeavors, Stratford Eco Center
has not and will not fail. Their love for the animals and plants that have been intrusted to their care is amazing and I know that this one plot of earth is well protected and most of all, loved, and will be around for generations to come.
I salute you Stratford Eco Center, and I thank you for making my numerous visits ones I will remember for years to come.
And also, I thank you for putting up with my many questions and quietly smiling at my excitement and the showing of my many photographs of the area I know you see everyday, yet sharing my excitement with me, and oohing and awing at the photos none the less.
