While doing research on historic architecture in Cleveland, I came across a reference to Heinen's Downtown and its recently restored historic rotunda from its origin as the Cleveland Trust Building more than 115 years ago. It's a beautiful Beaux Arts style in a building designed by New York architect George B. Post. The glass dome is reminiscent of Tiffany, but it has not been authenticated as such. Corinthian columns abound, and up on the 3rd floor balcony are 13 beautiful murals depicting the settlement of the Great Lakes region, done by renowned artist Francis Millet (who perished a few years later when Titanic sank). Heinen's is to be applauded for the restoration of this historic architectural treasure. It is not easy to find nearby on-street parking so I was dropped off for a quick visit. Hope to return some day to enjoy each mural one-by-one and soak up the beauty of it all while enjoying a coffee and lunch or a sweet treat.

A small upmarket grocery in downtown Cleveland. It was notably compliant to COVID safety. It’s a good place to grab fresh fruit, salads and deli. Interestingly, I found here lovely vintages of Portuguese Alentejano reds and Gran vin Bordeaux clarets at very low prices.

Solid small grocery in the middle of downtown. If you are staying at one of the downtown hotels, it is very walkable and have enough small stapes for either a light meal or snacks if you don't want to pay bar prices. Very good wine and beer selection as well as some varied cheeses.

The nice thing is that they preserved the old architecture of the bank including the large stained glass that is the roof of the rotunda and the paintings along the walls. Even if you don't really buy anything, it is worth a visit to check out.

It has been a challenge as a traveler to find a good market downtown but this doesn’t really merit such high ratings. I was expecting some fantastic architectural market and found it is really just a round food court. Beer selection is very limited (didn’t check out the wine) and market has some nice fruit at a high price. If you are passing by great but don’t bother to drive there special and park like I did … so not worth it.

This restored building in downtown Cleveland near Playhouse Square is a must-see stop! Great for grabbing a quick lunch too! Take out or dine in, in this stunning rotunda! Very special! Great wine shopping / tasting as well. Well informed staff. Grocery store attached next door as well. We experienced ALL that Heinen's had to offer! Go!

It’s ok. Their bakery section sucks. The deli is fine. There are just a few cashiers available. The security guard kept following me, which made me feel very uncomfortable, so I just grabbed a few things I needed and left. It's worth going to look at the glass duomo, only.

It's a gourmet grocery store in an old (historic) bank building. The rotunda is beautiful. The lay-out is unusual for a supermarket, since it was a bank, after all. Prices are higher than at a typical supermarket in Cleveland. There are no other full-service grocery stores downtown, so it's a blessing to downtown residents. Clean, well-stocked, and friendly.

Oh, what fun.

I am a country mouse who loves to visit the big city.

We were staying at the Metropolitan 9 next door and decided to visit the grocery.

Sushi, beautiful cheeses, gift trays, wines and gorgeous produce.

The routunda is also stunning....the whole thing is just a visual paradise. You gotta' swing by and check out this place.

It's bigger than you think!

This place is spectacular. The building, it's history and renaissance are fascinating, you must read up about it when you are there. The food and drink are just as awesome. We were shocked to find this place, as the last time we stayed at Metropolitan at the 9, it was not open for business. Stop in and enjoy all it has to offer.

This place is so cool, especially for grocery (albeit an upscale grocery). Very good lunch counter. Super friendly staff, great selection of everything and we could not get over the decor.
