- JillO0315Florida74 contributionsA Must Visit for FansI remember seeing A Christmas Story in the movie theater as a child. This movie has been with me most of my life. I never thought I would visit Cleveland but when the opportunity presented itself I knew I had to visit Ralphie’s house. The staff, the house, the gift shop, and the museum are wonderful. The tour of the house includes some little know facts about the house before the movie, interesting stories about the making of the movie, and so many little things that make you enjoy the film a little more. I highly recommend a visit!Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 5, 2023
- James CNew York City, New York259 contributionsChristmas in SeptemberDriving to Michigan for my son’s wedding we stayed in the Christmas story house in Cleveland . It actually was the neighbors house but, it was mint . Easy check in and very helpful personnel to show us around. The house was spotless and had comp coffee. We took the tour and brittney was an excellent guide. If you love the movie (1983 ) version it’s a mustVisited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 8, 2023

When I arrived early in the morning there were already 15+ people waiting for the tour. Two houses, the Fire Truck, The Old Man's Car and a gift shop are all worth spending a couple of hours enjoying..Visited October 2023Traveled soloWritten October 19, 2023
- Traveler268788103006 contributionsBucket list trip!!This was a bucket list trip for me. This movie and everything about it is near and dear to my heart. As a small child I remember watching this movie with my family and each year growing to love it even more, if that’s even possible. I had an amazing time. I met up with my brother and sister in law who had been out in surrounding states before I got there. We stayed inside the House that night. Our day first started with a very well spoken tour led by Bill. Highly recommend. If you can stay that’s even an added bonus. 🎄Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 19, 2023
- alli_hanPrince Albert, Canada209 contributionsI normally hate tours….I normally hate tours…but this was amazing! The guide, Bill, was knowledgeable and entertaining. Our two girls (ages 19 and 20) loved it. Finding out all the little fun things and back stories made us watch the movie again that night. Highly recommend!Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 2, 2023

The tour was great as well and it’s interactive to some degree which makes it even better. Loved hearing the history behind the movie as well. - Bruce W21 contributionsWe had a nice enjoyable visit. A Bucket list now complete!I booked a trip in advance. Booked in March for November 24th, day after Thanksgiving. My wife and I took the train from Boston, rented a car and stayed one night at the Bumpus house, downstairs, and then we went rented the Christmas Story house. The place was packed with people on the black Friday and then Saturday and Sunday. We had a wonderful weekend seeing the local sites in Cleveland. Eating at different places. Our only down fall was when we had full access to the Christmas Story house, we didn't spend enough time in the actual downstairs. The loft we stayed in was so comfortable and nice that we hung out mostly there. Plus I didn't take enough pictures. But this was on my bucket list for a while and I am glad I did this. My wife actually said that we can go back but next time book the Bumpus house for 2 days and save a few bucks.Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 20, 2023

It is a fun experience, well worth the money and time. Also, there will be something for you to pick up in the gift shop. The staff was great. There is a free parking lot next to the house. This is the house used in the filming of the movie "A Christmas Story." Tour tickets are sold in the gift shop across the street just past the museum. Tours begin in the house and conclude in the museum and last about 1/2 hour. The tour guide gives background about the movie and artifacts in the house and then gives a few minutes for the guests to "explore" the house. From there to the back yard for a quick talk and look around. Then across the street to the museum for another quick talk and look around. I have never seen the movie, so I did not have the background necessary to understand many of the references. If you are familiar with the movie, as most of the other guests were, it seems to be a very enjoyable experience. COVID-19: Employees were masked and visitors were expected to remain masked throughout the tour. Social distancing is problematical on the tour.

My family went to The Christmas Story House in order to enjoy something from one of our favorite movies. My kid is a wheelchair user and we understood we wouldn't be able to do a part of the tour because of this. I asked if there was a discount (not expected just simply asked) since one person couldn't do the full tour and there was not. This was relayed in a pretty rude manner. I then asked if my husband and I would be able to switch off if we came back another day. Nope. It was very clear this person did not want to work with us and resented us for trying to find a creative solution. (including interrupting conversations I was having with my husband). I had planned on buying a lot from the gift shop but left feeling disrespected and without spending one red cent. It's okay for an older building to not be wheelchair accessible as that is normal. It is not okay to treat customers who have a disability with little respect and make no effort to even try and help them experience what is accessible. I still love the movie but will spend my money elsewhere on vacation. It would be very easy to provide an experience to their disabled customers and their website does not communicate that you can't even access what is accessible without paying full price. The website should make it clear that if you are disabled you only will see twenty minutes of an hour tour and that you will pay full price.

We aren’t super fans but lots of people are and that was part of the fun. This attraction is very well done, time was taken to make sure your visit goes smoothly and they are very efficient. They also own the property across the street which has memorabilia, then next door to that a large gift shop and ticket sales. The day we were there the actress who played the mean elf was signing autographs and telling stories about filming the movie.
My older grandchildren had just seen the movie so they were really excited. The adults all found it fun.
It was a really a fun day and good Family Christmas outing day.

We had maybe a 5 min wait for the tour. I didn't catch our tour guides name but we went on 1-11-2020 at 11:15. She was very informative and very nice! She was happy to answer any questions. This tour was a lot of fun for our family! Our kids are 3 and 5 and had a good time during the tour getting to act out scenes from the movie that they just loved this Christmas season. We had plenty of time to look around and get fun pictures, though I could've spent a lot more time to read the news paper articles and things like that. It was really interesting learning about things that occurred during the filming. I highly recommend going on this tour! The gift shop is a bit over priced for things but really what gift shop isn't.

We visited the Christmas Story House on our cross country road trip. Parking is free so don’t pay the neighbors. Admission for the hose tour was $15 per person and the tour took about 30 minutes. The house looks great and we were aloud to touch everything in there. They also have a museum house with artifacts from the movie including the old mans car and the fire truck that rescued Flix. The visitors center has so much cheesy stuff you just have to walk through and laugh at it all. If your in the area don’t miss it.
And don’t forget to eat at the bar next door. It’s not much to look at but the food is amazing. The guy behind the bar with a fan hanging around his neck was great, drinks came fast and his food recommendations were on point. Well done.

My 9 year old son and I went and we both loved it. It hits all your good feels and nostalgia for a movie we all watch every year.
He loved interacting with everything and being able to touch and hold certain items. The house is not exactly the same, I get it, but it was super fun to see either way.
The museum had a lot of cool movie props and costumes and our tour guide had fun little stories about them all.
The gift shops prices are on the high side but they have anything and everything that you could possible imagine wanting to buy for a souvenir.
***Side note: Make time for Rowley’s Inn if you’re eating. The food was fantastic!***

Visit 12/4/2021: My Daughter bought tickets on line week ago. What we did not know is that buying a ticket on line and in advance provides no advantage on getting into the house vs buying in person on the day you want to tour.. 2nd problem is that when we got there we got in line with everyone else, waited 1.5 hours and when we got to the front door , , literally at the front door, the ticket taker looks at our tickets and said we did not have a time on written our ticket to get in. What do you mean, time? She said oh when you get here you are supposed to check in at the museum across the street and they assign you a time to get IN. We got a little loud but we left the front door to go across the street to get our "time". Evidently the people behind us told the people behind them who told the people behind them what was going on. About 150 people followed us into the museum to "get a time". After waiting in line again in the museum for 45 minutes we got our time it was 2 hours from the current time. We asked for a refund because we could not wait. As we left there were two people from the staff now in the street telling those left in line that if they did not have a time, they need to go to the museum and get one. More people started to walk across the street. My bucket list has to wait.

My husband and I visited the house and museum during a weekend getaway to Cleveland. We had heard from a family member that it was definitely worth a visit, so we decided to check it out. Parking was free right across from/next to the tour and museum. You have to check in and purchase your tour tickets at the gift shop and there were clear signs stating this. The tour begins across the street at the family home and it is set to look as it it did in the movie. There were so many interactive features and photo opportunities! Our tour guide, Keith and the young man he was training (I can't remember his name, unfortunately) were very knowledgeable and friendly and knew so many little facts and trivia. We could have talked to them forever about the movie and the industry in general. After the home tour, you go across the street to the museum and there are so many amazing artifacts from the film! There were also lots of fun, inexpensive items in the gift shop and every employee we interacted with was friendly. This is such a fun little gem in Cleveland and was our favorite part of our weekend!

Growing up as a kid watching this movie every year, this was a really cool tour that allows you to get a behind the scenes look at the filming of this holiday classic. We enjoyed touring the home and getting insight into life during that time period. Would definitely recommend during Christmas time. The gift shop has plenty of memorabilia and souvenirs to choose from. You also get a lot of pertinent information on the cast and crew at the museum.

I wasn’t sure what to expect here, but I have seen the film and enjoyed every viewing, so I decided to stop on the way out of town. I was really glad I did! The tour begins in the gift shop. There are stamped penny machines, which are a favorite of mine, along with T-shirts, mugs and the almighty “Major Award” replicas. I HAD to have a Christmas ornament to take home to remember this trip. It’s awesome; it’s a “Major Award”!
Next door to the Christmas Story House is the Bumpus house, where the hound dogs who stole the Turkey lives. You can rent both the Christmas Story House, and the Bumpus House for overnight if you want!
After getting tickets at the gift shop, you go to the house. The tour guide Cody gave us some behind the scenes info that gave me a chuckle, and it was fun to see the props. The house has replicas and you are allowed to stay inside and view them all as long as you wish. Take lots of photos; don’t forget the big wad of electric cords in the front room by the tree! If you stand quietly in the kitchen you can hear dad working on the old furnace and muttering to himself in the basement!
After visiting the shop for tickets, and the house for the tour, you are led to the museum which houses actual items from the filming. That’s where the Red Ryder resides. Take your time and enjoy the fan art; it’s really cool.
My hotel manager said I should grab lunch at the little Rowley’s bar across the street, but as I was headed home, I didn’t have time. Give it a try though, as he said it had some really good food.
This visit was a very delightful one that really made me smile. I recommend it if you are in Cleveland!

I believe that there is a weekly rate. I think they said you could rent it on Christmas Eve and then you would have access to the house for a longer period on Christmas Day.

I'm confused about the parking situation. At a friend's recommendation, we plan to visit this spring. However they told us "not to get ripped off like they did paying to park in some guys yard" (they said they went about 3 years ago) So what's the true story and real situation with parking? Is it free? And if so, where?
Written March 11, 2019
Hi! There is parking in a parking lot that they own, which is free (but there’s not much of it), or you can pay in other lots, not owned by them) and have to pay. Hope that helped!

There is limited free parking next to the house. If no spaces are available, park on any of the streets around the house for free.

Can someone recommend a hotel to stay at close to the Christmas story house. Looking to stay near the Christmas story house and museum.
Written July 24, 2018
The Christmas story house is in a residential area which is called Tremont. It is being redeveloped. We found it safe and some nice restaurants nearby. Use Yelp. Getting to the neighborhood requires passing thru some not great areas. Look for hotels in downtown Cleveland or the West Side. Red Roof Inns and Hampton Inns are available. Enjoy Cleveland, museums, and the zoo will add to your trip.
